Zuzu, there are a bunch of beautiful 'russet' rose on that thread and correct me if I am wrong but Butterscotch was the only climber???

Mika - so far I have only found two sources in the EU, both in Germany. This one says they send to all EU countries but you will have to contact them first about the shipping cost. The page is in German so unless you are fluent Google translate will help. The women who runs it is Karin Schade. She currently has a special on http://groenloof.stauden-und-r... (Jactan/Butterscotch is on the last page)

I am planning to visit her gardens this June and hopefully pick up a potted Jactan while I am there Big Grin

All lovely! Lovey dubby I do get confused at the big difference in the DB photos for each variety, though - sometimes it's hard to know which pic is more accurate - or they could be varieties that change, perhaps.

They all go through the buff stage, but some age into lavender (Stephen Rulo and Koko Loco) and Suntan Beauty ages into yellow. Some of the ones in my earlier thread become pink as they age.

Zuzu, that thread on buff colored roses got me started on a whole new collection. I LOVE those colors, and the photos that you and Sue post feed that craving! Buff roses blend well with plum and burgundy trees and shrubs, and I have many of those. Right now, most of the ones I want are only available at Roses Unlimited, and their shipping is very expensive. Are they shipping one gallons, or bands? I can't remember, and I can't seem to find that info on their new site. Burling carries quite a few of the russets also. Who else might have a good selection?
Did anyone order from the 5/$60 sale at J & P? The newer ones are tempting because they have strong fragrance, but I have not seen them or smelled them in person.
I can't believe I had to water today after all the rain we've had. Temps have been in 80s for 3 days, with wind of course, so newly planted items are thirsty. I'm wanting to pull weeds, not water, because I have someone coming on Thursday to take photos for a tour flier. The tour won't be for another year, but they need the photos ahead of time for registration. I wish they had given me more than a weeks' notice! My brain and body are frazzled. I know I promised photos, but I can't seem to get time to go anywhere to upload them.
Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get.

Yes, Cindi, Roses Unlimited sends the plants in 1-gallon containers. The shipping is absurdly high, I agree. It's $9 per plant for me, and the roses always spend 8 days in transit. That's the reason I stopped buying roses from RU. If I'm going to pay a fortune for shipping, I want the roses to be shipped by the quickest possible method, not the slowest.

Burling's roses arrive on my doorstep the morning after she sends them. They are usually bands, but she has some gallons also.

I didn't buy any of the J&P sale roses, but I did spring for Spring Hill's Rainbow of Roses -- 5 roses for $14.99 and only $7.95 for shipping. I hope it's a good selection, but if it isn't, who cares? At that price, they're disposable roses, cheaper than some annuals. I'll grow them in containers and plant them in the fall if they prove to be desirable. Otherwise, they're not worth the $5 gopher-proof cage.

My garden was toured one year and I was frazzled for weeks beforehand, deadheading and pulling off unsightly leaves every day. Then it rained on the day of the tour and everyone ran through the garden at 60 mph.

Zuzu is coming Thurs with a friend to tour my garden, I may or may not deadhead, forget removing spotty leaves. nodding Just keeping it real. Big Grin

Thanks Sharlene for the compliment on that rose shot, when you have such gorgeous subjects, it's hard not to be drawn in with the camera. Thumbs up

My Buff Beauty sends out long arching canes, it's planted about 3 feet from a metal arch over my pathway and grew one long cane up and over the arch and I noticed it's now reached down the other side. It's just lovely mixed it with the green leaves of the Jessamine that covers the arch.

Wow photo, Sue! Lovey dubby I tip my hat to you. made me realise I definitely need Buff Beauty - as well as Butterscotch, Honey Dijon, and one each of zuzu's glorious pics... D'Oh! Time to dig up some lawn, methinks.

And we have quite a few plum/burgundy trees and shrubs, so I'll also be adopting Cindi's suggestion on placement for some of them! I tip my hat to you.

I've been looking at roses by Dominique Massad, a French breeder - anyone got any/have views on them?

Sharlene, BB starts out soft peach in my garden but quickly turns more soft beige, which is what I consider to be a buff color (like sand or hay). Some sources call it yellow, but mine doesn't really ever appear yellow.

Mika, Teasing Georgia, another that appears yellow in most photos I see of it, is more buff in my garden.

Thanks, Neal - I have Teasing Georgia (in fact several of them!), but it's definitely yellow here. Strange how different soils/climates affect the colours of plants.
Have you seen the colour of Julia's Rose? http://www.davidaustinroses.co...

David Austin only sell it bare root, so I might look around for a container version (too impatient to wait!)

Mika, my Julia's Roses, I have two, are all the colours of those in our database:
Rose (Rosa 'Julia's Rose')
depending on whether it is early or late in the year and the maturity of the bloom.

Thanks, Lilli - it's a beauty!
I'm now thinking of placing an order with Petrovic Roses, who are in Serbia. They sell only bare root, but their prices are really, really low compared to my usual suppliers. Of course postage has to be added to the cost, plus a phyto cert (35 euros per shipment). But certainly worth a try, I think!

Yesterday I visited Longwood Gardens and was surprised to see a single floribunda cultivar, Sparkle & Shine (WEKjunjuk), blooming in the rose garden. This was the only cultivar blooming among the many roses in this garden. I had previously seen it blooming there in late November, 2016. It has a lovely lemon fragrance, and the Longwood Gardens rose gardeners report that it is very disease-resistant.

Does anyone grow this rose?
