SummerBee said: "Gladiolus Italicus" is one Google suggests (all results seemed to be Gladiolus). Very pretty!

That sure looks like a match.
Larry, fortunately you are in zone 8, as that is a zone 8-10 plant. So, it should be fine. Well drained soil and full sun (think Italy - or more specifically the Island of Malta Green Grin! ).
Since it isn't a hardy Gladiolus, no one grows it here in zone 6A - which explains why I haven't seen it before.

Donna,
Fothergilla are cute.
I eye up the 'Legend of the Fall' one every year. But it is just too big for me to place anywhere. Crying

Although, they now have a 'Legend of the Small' which is a miniature one..... Thinking

Might have to find a spot after all...

I bought Legend of the Small last Fall, truthfully don't know if it has returned as I haven't spent any time in the bigger garden bed. Supposedly Major grows to around 6-12 feet with about a 12 foot spread. Bees love them. I have the perfect spot for two of them and am hoping the deer don't like them.

I didn't have any time but I did complete the fan count ( minus Daylilies missing signs) in Upper Bed. There is evidence of vole activity so I have to start sprinkling Castor oil pellets.

Today not much done in the daylily garden except weeding and watering and finding scapes. I think it is about time to end my scape hunting, too many to remember what I already put down.
Spent most of my day cleaning out the big beds in the back, greenbriar is still a big problem, plus tons of other weeds and grasses. Really it was a big job, but not nearly as bad as I had expected. I hauled off four piled high cart loads.
I picked up a car load of plants from my daughter over the past weekend, got all them planted and felt they needed a clean looking bed to show off in. For a few years now I have wanted more hosta, and now I have them, along with a few more amaryllis. Those plants really added to the looks of the garden beds.

I came home from teaching and pent two hours counting fans in the Patio, Lower Patio and Lower Fence Beds. There are so many Daylilies that haven't bloomed yet here! Super excited for the coming season!

OMG, I loathe greenbriar. I dug most of it out of one of my beds when I turned it into a daylily bed after I took out the redtips that were there. But it keeps cropping up in other spots including the lawn. That and trumpet vine. I just hate them with a passion.

Well, what a surprise on a scaped seedling daylily $^%$%& Angry Leaves were buried & once freed, no crown attached. I must have interrupted someone's lunch. Grumbling
The crown is still there so maybe recovery. Maybe not worth the effort.

Grumbling Grumbling is right!

Weeded the bed by our well (The Well Bed); planted one of the rust susceptible daylilies there. When the other two arrive I will put them out there as well. Iris and Creeping Jenny are doing very well in that bed, though it is tough to weed in Creeping Jenny. Weeded the raised garden beds and checked to see how many of the daylilies I "overwintered" there have made it. It's very odd, in two of the beds six out of six survived. In the rest there are fewer. D'Oh! Fertilized and mulched The Well Bed and mulched a couple of the raised beds containing herbs. The herbs are doing so well in those beds they will remain there in perpetuity.

Culligan was supposed to be here between 12:00 and 2:00 and hasn't shown up yet. I'm loathe to jump into the shower - as soon as I do he'll arrive! Daughter is bringing flooring samples for my opinion anyway.

What did I do today? I backed over a bunch of my daylilies.

Arghhhhhhhhh! DH and I were on our way this morning to our storage unit to pick up stuff for the yard sale this weekend. I was driving. I did that once several years ago; this time it was worse. I had been so careful since the first time; this time I has looking out the rear view mirror and completely misjudged where I was on the driveway. D'Oh!

The ones that got it worst were Zella Virginia and Bahama Butterscotch. I also ran over Optical Delight, Shaggy Pumpkin, and part of Misty Mountains Cold, Whatchamacallit, and Stella's Sparky. Most of them had buds. Crying

They will probably live but probably won't bloom this year, judging on the last experience. So angry with myself. Grumbling

They might still bloom since you hit them so early in the year.
Lots and lots of months to go yet until the season is over, for them to make fresh scapes. Shrug!

I guess it is the equivalent of a deer munching them. If a deer does this early Spring, do they still come back the same year or no? My season is too late to know these things. Thinking

Well, last time I ran over Whatachmacallit (an excellent rebloomer) when it was full of scapes and buds. All the buds died and came off, and it never bloomed at all that year. It did continue growing just fine and bloomed the next year.

This time, three or four took a direct hit. The others (Misty Mountains Cold, Whatchamacallit, Stella's Sparky, and maybe one other, I can't recall) were partially run over. Some of the scapes were squashed, but some weren't. Crossing Fingers! I get some blooms. Stella's Sparky was actually in full bloom already.

I still can't believe I did this. And of course right after it happened, as we were driving to the storage until, DH lectured me about what I had done wrong backing down the driveway. I deserved it, but I finally said, "I really don't want to hear it right now. I'm the one who ran over her flowers about to bloom." To his credit, he stopped the lecture. He could see I was pretty upset.
