I love having the recent photos and comments gathered here, Dave.

I've noticed that it's not possible to search according to one criterion. I tried searching for shade-tolerant roses (I enter "Shade tolerant" in the comments section for those roses, in case anyone else wants to find them) and got nothing until I added more criteria. It wasn't a big problem because I just searched for them under the rebloom categories: none, some, good, and excellent. It would be nice, though, to be able to run a search through all of the roses for things like shade tolerance or a particular hybridizer's name without having to add another criterion.

If I put in the name of a hybridizer it cancels out the other criteria I put in. Such as large and hybrid.

Good report, Zuzu. I found this bug and fixed it! Please try again.

I can't get this to happen to me. Sad

I check off details, then go type something into a text field, and all remains as I had it. I clicked search and it worked properly. Confused

I see what the problem is Dave. : )
It will only show plants that match all the criteria.

If I want it to give entries showing number of offsets (chicks), how do I need to set that entry up so it will us it?

Just search for the number in the "Number of chicks" field.

If I do a search on number of chicks, it is hit and miss. I think I need to go back through the database and take out very thing but the number of chicks.
The search will only come up with exact numbers instead of say, 5 or more, 10 or more, and so one.

This is the downside of using a text field instead of a select pulldown. With a text field, anyone can enter just anything they want. For example, you could enter "three" and then the number 3 won't find that as a match.

This is why when we prefer to use checkboxes or pulldowns when we have something specific.

Would it be difficult to change that to select pulldown field?

I tried the same search, Linda, and also got Traviata, plus a pink rose (Devotion) and a white one (Ibiza).

I'll have to look into that, Linda.

valleylynn said:Would it be difficult to change that to select pulldown field?

Yes, this is an architectural change which is not a trivial matter, but it's do-able. The process involves creating a new field that has pulldowns with all the options you would want to let people choose, then each plant would have to be gone through one-by-one and edited to have the number selected.

Once they are all updated, then the old text field can simply be removed.

Updating would be easy, as there aren't many of them with that information added yet.

What choices should the field have? And should they be multiple-choice-checkboxes or select-one-pulldowns?

How does the search work?

If we put:
1 to 5
6 to 10
11 to 20
21 to 30
31 and more

Some may only make 3 to 5 offsets per season, others make up to 50 or more per season. Not sure how it should be done for a search?

If we had those options, then you would be able to select which of those ranges you want to view plants for and they would then come up.

So if I go to the Sempervivum search feature it would show them listed as you have above?

Could we do the same thing for leave color?
