Yes and yes, if I understand what you are asking.

In Sempervivums, we have "Size" and the contributor can choose one on:

Mini up to 1/2"
Small 1/2" to 21/2"
Medium 11/2" to 21/2"
Large- 2 1/2 and larger
Other

Have you seen that? That's a series of checkboxes. We can add as many of these as we'd like. We can do it for color and we can do it for chick count. All we have to do is decide what choices we want to present to the contributor.

Any interest in adding fall count to Japanese Iris?

Absolutely!! I would certainly search on that criteria. As it is now, I peck my way through the checklist looking for 3F JIs...

Green Grin! I did the same thing after seeing some of the amazing 3F blooms posted. Then realizing I'd bought or been given all 6F and 9F this spring and summer. How should it be done Connie?

I just took a glimpse at a few JIs in the db and it looks like fall # information is included there, from the registration information. But a search using 3F didn't work very well.

Check boxes would probably work best:

3 falls
6 falls
9 falls
9+ falls
Peony

Maybe not exactly like that, but close.

I hope this happens Connie. Do you think folks would be interested in ploidy(sp.)? When I bought Japanese Pinwheel I made sure to buy another tet. in hopes of a pod. I don't know if that's a big deal with JI folk.

Yes ploidy. I'm working with tetraploids. I think this is included in the registration info but a check box may work better.

Dave, you're amazing!

Just incase you totally run out of enhancements to implement, here's one that might or might not be very usefull. I know I would have liked it once upon a time, for earliness of tomatoes.

How about SORTING the display list by any numeric field, or by the enumeration value of a radio button? I notice a tendency for similar colors or traits to be close together in pull-dwon lists, for example yellow - orange - red.

One might sort a lst by height, hardiness or earliness and then scroll to the area of interest.

The only vlaue I see is that it MIGHT save multplie searches (e.g. search for 6-9", then serach for 10-15", then search for 16-24.

Dave, could this type of search be applied to the entire DB?

ex.
Salvia + Zone 5b + Perennial + Bloom Color: Red

Thanks, Dave. I don't think there is any limit to length of the Wish List that gardeners could come up with.

How about a "Read My MInd" search where you can find the plant that I WOULD be looking for if I knew that such a thing existed?

But since we are here wishing away, I wish there was a way to search for Texas native plants, I know there are some people who would be very happy about that. Would it be possible? Smiling

One day I really would love to tackle the issue of native plants. We have no mechanism for it at this time, though.
