Bob's hip isn't as good as new, but it's better. He has trouble getting out of the car - twists himself wrongly each time!
We spent the day shopping, etc, cuz we knew Bob couldn't get back to work today - and it's supposed to have freezing rain tomorrow. Bob had to cover all the drywall & sheeting today because of the impending freezing rain. Our landlord is going to try to move the big shed we bought, and is still across the street - I sure hope he can

My weather station says it got down to 32 last night. I do not see any damage to plants or signs of frost though. No other 30's in the 10 day forecast. Got to be some kinda record. Without realizing it I guess I am getting ready for winter. Traded in my 18 yr. old snow blower for a new one. Just got 4 new tires on my car. Gene

Good morning. It got down to 39F in my yard under tree cover. Heavy dew on the grass. Supposed to get up to 66F today. For now, we have sunny skies. The tree people are finally here as the stars fell into alignment. They'll be here all day taking out 3 big oaks out of my small front yard. A tricky job for them due to the size of the trees and the leaning over the house and the fact that we want to save a yellow maple growing right in the middle. It's a 6-man crew and they're carefully taking their time for safety measures. I've used this company twice before and have always been impressed with their work. Not the cheapest but they definitely know what they're doing.
No gardening work today - too enthralled watching the tree people.

Gene - Hilarious!
I'm not going to complain about the temps (too much) since we've had snow and sleet and rain on Halloween. There was frost on the roof across the street this morning.
Have the cooler temps made a dent in the mosquito populations yet?

omg - went to the chiropractor we thought was closer to us, but it's really not, AND he charges 8x the amount our other one does, so guess we're going to go to our regular Dr. $5 vs $40 a visit is not something we can do........ will take the 1 hr trip to Calgary and pay $5, and try to find parking in the residential area

Without those 3 oak trees you might have to switch to sun gardening instead of shade nodding nodding

Wow Susan that is a big difference Blinking

The 3 trees are gone. Took about 8 hours since they had to work around my maple. The owner said that was more of an issue than protecting the house. But worth the effort. These guys didn't break for lunch but I did supply coffee and cookies. Sent them off with individual tips and cold beer to drink once they get back to the shop. Three neighbors on my one block (a cul du sac) asked the owner for quotes. We're situated in a oak/hickory wood so there's always tree-trimming to do.
Legalily - and I don't know a thing about sun gardening. Maple roots will be a big issue though. Will wait to see what comes back in the spring before making any design decisions. I had hostas, epimediums, woodland phlox and Carex 'Ice Dancer'. I did reject the wood chips but kept the stump grindings and will mix that with some nitrogen fertilizer tomorrow. And top dress the whole bed.

Well now - this is funny......... the chiropractor's office re-dialed in error and got me - she said that the $40 was without the insurance co's portion paid, so our portion is $15. Yes, it's 3x what our Calgary chiro cost, but they're both good, and i't s 50 min to Red Deer and great parking, vs 1 hour to Calgary and horrid parking - nowhere to park actually because he's next to a residential area and they all park on the street and he doesn't have his own parking.
So, I guess we will be going to Red Deer. The same price as Olds, but we would have to pay for initial costs ($80)to go to another chiro in Olds, so we won't do that.

Cindy when we had oak trees die and cut down the wood chips we had them leave weren't ground enough and didn't break down well. I always use wood mulch but I don't like big chunks. The smaller breaks Dow into compost much quicker. Your beds will love the top dressings.

Cloudy. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Susan,
It sounds like he needs a few more treatments. It felt so good when I got mine, I could get addicted to going, lol!
Your weather sure went bad fast.

Gene,
We get that too and usually look to see if the neighbor's roof is frosty or if the birdbath has ice.
Way to go! No time like the present to get ready! We did theenew snowblower a few years ago.

Cindy,
By now, your trees should be down. Oak is a desireable wood to someone who burns wood. It's too bad you have no takers.
I love watching them. The neighbors had a pin oak leaning towards their house. They brought a crane in thru the alley to pull the tree upright a bit and proceeded to cut the top off, cutting the rest as they went. No danger and the tree came down. I'm sure they appreciated the tips and refreshments!

DGD, age 5, was awake when I got up at 4:30 am. She couldn't go back to sleep. DGS just got up at 6:25 am. They are back in my bed watching the real Bugs Bunny cartoons. AND... that didn't last long. She's asked three times when we are going to play a game and for the third time I told her way later! This is my quiet time.

Good morning. Stayed a steady 50F overnight, heading to 73F today but it's kinda overcast even though we're supposed to get some sun this morning. May get some rain tonight or tomorrow. DH and I will be outside today, he doing some front yard remediation after the tree cutting and me catching up on chores (mainly window cleaning) that I put on hold until the trees were down. Harvesting green tomatoes today and pulling the plants along with the self-sown morning glories that went crazy this summer.
Gene - we bought new snowblower last fall and DH only used it once or twice during the winter since we didn't get much snow.
I did reject the wood chips from branch chipping but not the fine stuff from stump grinding, which is mixed with some dirt. There were trucks lined up to take the tree logs so that's a nice "service". Just branches that got chipped.
Sally - there's no talking the little ones into going back to sleep when they wake up early. Perhaps they were excited to be having a "getaway" at your house.

it's supposed to get spring-like weather again this week. Hope it's before Wed.

Wed I have to travel 2 1/2 hours for a dentist that will give a discount, and Thurs I have to travel 1 1/2 hours to see my knee surgeon's office.
