Mostly sunny. North wind 10 to 15 mph.

Jim,
Laughing! The walnuts are so brittle this year a sledge would pulverize them.
Pretty sunflower sprout!
I wish we were getting rain.

Cindy,
We do eat the nuts we pick up. Ours aren't very good, but there aren't any really good ones at his Mom's this year.
Your stray will be a good hunter even if you do feed him.
I have never heard a barred in town and haven't had screech owls for many years. How sad is that?

It's windy already this morning, and cold!

Good morning. 61F right now, damp and cloudy. Wind just started picking up. We won't get any warmer than current temp today. Some short rain showers expected this morning and this afternoon.
Sally - re: stray cat - I will say that I haven't seen as many chipmunks over the last month although it could also be a seasonal thing. I won't see any during the winter - they stay in their dens. I may have to increase the amount of food I feed the cat over winter. I wonder if he'll be able to hunt the mice/voles under snow.

Jim - I'm sure those cute kittens will find a home fast. Those blooms sure are cheery! Yep, 74 and sunny sounds just about perfect. My mums are blooming - 'Sheffield Pink' and a white one that came with the house years ago. May have to go out and pick some for indoors. Did you get any storms yesterday?

It looks like we are all getting a wind or breeze.

Cindy,
My well fed indoor male will catch shrews or mice if they come in the cat pen. It's great to have a mouser!

Jim,
Don't temp me with kittens! They are so cute!
Tithonia is such a beautiful orange! I still see an occasional Admiral and bee.

Gene,
The driveway has enough of them. I think it woerks better for hulling them. We hull by hand, with gloves!

Ginny,
Giggle!

Jim,
Mingles is cute!

Jim kittens are cute but the last stray cat (outdoor) we adopted we're pretty sure the coyotes got her, plus the dog would go nuts Blinking Blinking

Curiosity - other than things that have winter interest, do you clean up all of your plants (daylilies, hostas, etc.) as soon as the frost turns them to mush, or do you wait until Spring and do a major cleanup then when you cut down the grasses, etc.? I've done it both ways (depends on what I have for time) and not sure which one is better for my plants. Just thought I'd see what the rest of you do or what your preference is. Confused If I have daylily rust this year (first time ever) is it better to get rid of those now and dispose of the foliage?

I don't really know what to do about Daylily Rust , , As the weather does depends on fall or spring cleaning ,
Daylily will lay green all winter here sometimes , I cut them after bloom and their grown back by this time of year ,

I am still getting tomatoes
yesterday I picked this

Ginny - driveway, crack - Hilarious! Re: garden cleanup - I'm trying to get in the habit of chop and drop except for disease-prone things like tomatoes, squash, roses. My beds aren't terribly formal so I mulch with shredded leaves anyway which get left in place. I can hide veg scraps under the mulch if the raccoons or possums don't find it first.
Jim - nice to have fresh tomatoes in Oct!
Sally - I'll probably have up the rations to the stray cat. I started with half a can of food per day but I think I'll have to up it to a full can per day. I do have water out there for him too and he actually goes for that. Better than slimy green wetlands water.
We've had cats, a dog, fish, ferrets, hamsters, cockatiel and I'm glad to take a break from pets. I'm sensitive to cat hair - don't like it on my furniture or clothes. Makes my nose tickle every time.

Went outside and pulled the cucumber vine which was finally and fully done for and pulled all the t posts out and stored them in the shed. I got one rose pot buried but needed a shovel instead of my trowel and I didn't see it down there. Thinking my dad is using it for work right now. So I just watered the roses real good and moved them to the bed but didn't bury them. Left the peppers since it's still blooming and producing peppers.

SMH!! ......... driveway crack Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Today we actually had SUN!! woooo hooooo!!
Silly me - went for an appointment in Calgary (1 hr away....) and went to the wrong place (the Dr's office). Supposed to go to hospital for pre-admission info with 2 other Drs, but of course I was 1/2 way across the city, so they said I'd be too late for my 2 - 3 hr appointment, cuz they had another one already scheduled right after mine (10:30am was mine), so.... rescheduling for Nov 10th Sighing!
well, at least I got stuff done that needed doing - paid 2 people who helped us right after our move, and bought stuff we could only get in Calgary (not in the small towns around us).
Then, when we got home, Bob went out and got some more done to the 4th wall of our addition (the one attaching to our mobile) and got some more stuff OUT of our home into the shed Hurray!
I do like a productive day! Thumbs up

Patchy frost before 8 am. Sunny. North wind around 5 mph.

Ginny,
I think the hoot owls get the ferals we adopted over the years.
Late summer, around August, I start cutting the daylilies and peonies back. They re-grow new leaves. I leave all my hosta foliage because I have ladybugs overwinter in them. I now cut back everything else as soon as they quit blooming. I'll never leave myself a big mess in the spring again.

Jim,
My tomatoes are long gone :o(

Cindy,
We have a nice big waterdish for all outdoor animals. What do the cats do? Shove thier face into the slimy green watering jugs...

Pepper,
I left the buried pots in the garden for one more year. They are lily bulbs that need to grow more before I re-plant them. So much easier to bury a pot, lol!

Susan,
Bummer on missing the appointment. I've been sent to the wrong place before, but luckily we go extra early and had time to make it to the right place.
Yay for the productive day!
