Tomato Cage for Christmas Decorations

By Onewish1
December 28, 2011

Need a new purpose for your tomato cages? I wrapped the legs, then ran electrical tape down the sides, added 2 sets of green garlands from the dollar store, and wrapped it with Christmas lights. Do this and you'll have nice trees for display.

What a great idea ... Love it! I have a pattern someplace for making a Snowman with a tomato cage but I love the idea of the trees ... looks great with those lights you have added but it would look nice with the teeny ones also! Love this tip and I plan on trying it next Christmas!

All kinds of uses for tomato cages when they aren't being used for what they were made to be used for. I dry my socks and other small items on mine... But the Christmas lights are nice too, good idea Thumbs up !

One type of tomato cage (like the one Allison is showing) I stick into a container with a Hummingbird plant inside so that the Hummers have a place to rest on. A couple of years ago I found a red tom. cage!

For the other type of tom. cage (boxy looking), I tied two of them together to make it taller, stuck it into a larger container with a Hummingbird plant inside and had Hummers using it all Summer for a tall 'look out' perch! They loved it!

I'll have to round up some pics for you (w/o Hummer).

Here's some pics of the second tomato cage I was referring to. This was the first year I did it.

It's taller than shows in the pic and the Hummers tiny feet can wrap around it easily. Green Grin! I used those green tomato velcro strips on all four sides between the lower cage and the upper cage to secure them together.

Other type of tomato cage......I used to use the 'silver' type until I found a red one.

Wow, love all those plants! I've never seen a red tomato cage.
Hey, you could put a kid's bouncy ball on top of the tomato cage before draping a sheet over it for a Halloween ghost, and paint a scary face on it. Big Grin

Or drape the sheet & then put a pumpkin head in top.

Cool idea Marilyn with the hummer set up! Hurray!

The Rural King farm store has tomato cages in several colors including red.I think Menards also had cages in colors this year.
