None of my pots are that big that they can't be moved into the garage overnight. I do plant pots as early as late April, but I generally don't plant any tender things in the ground until mid May.
Jo Ann, if I had giant ceramic pots that couldn't be moved, I wouldn't plant them early. But even my biggest pots are plastic, so they can be moved to hide from the cold in the garage overnight. I don't use that many pots anymore, but once they're planted, I have a little less to babysit in trays in the house.
I hear ya
I have been dealing with gnats all winter. The watering hasnt bveen so bad .I let the plants dry out quite a bit.
There are too many planters here.I dont replace the ones that crack or get broken.Working on a smaller deck garden.
Trouble is DD wont throw anything away either
Jo Ann your coleus plants are looking great. Learned my lesson last year. No coleus out here until June. I lost most of mine and had to buy, not this year.
Easy way is to soak a mosquito dunk in a can of water for a while, then water the plants with that water. Dunks can be dried and re-used. http://wormsway.com/detail.asp...
