I had this gorgeous hand-blown glass ball (about 12" diameter) that my sister gave me a few years ago. Today I hit it with my head (ouch!!) - and it is in 7000 pieces.
I would love to replace it with a similar one, anyone have any ideas? I am just so sad about this mostly because it made me always think of the time my sister gave it to me.

How sad for you. Perhaps you may find something here to replace it.

Oh Hetty!! Hurts, doesn't it?

It for sure looks to be hand blown. Do you have any local glass artists down there?
Moon's 'kugelhouse' link might be a good start to finding another. I didn't look at her other link yet.

There aren't many glass blowers around anymore, though I did have a student who became one. If I can find him I'll ask him about them, but last time I heard he was in Vermont.

Sorry. I'll be on the lookout, though.

Oh, hope you did not hurt your head Hetty!

Do you have a Tuesday Morning store nearby? Sometimes I see similar items over there.

Thanks for all the expressions of sympathy. And no, my head is OK..... I haven't ever seen a Tuesday Morning store but a quick google shows me that there is one near where I work! So I will be stopping in there.
I looked at the Kugelhouse link and those are nice. Not in the same league as the one I had but also much less expensive...
I'll keep browsing. Thanks again Group hug

I do go to Home Goods regularly, they often have the gazing balls but I have never seen the hanging ones.

Yes, I am hesitant to do that. There is a shop here in town that I could go by..... It was almost $ 200 and that is not something I have lying around at the moment Thumbs down

I've seen hummingbird feeders like that. That might also be an option, plus you might get the flying jewels to compliment the pretty glass ball! Smiling

Check this out. These are not large, but they are pretty. This link takes you to her orange ball but it looks like she has several different colors.

I found these 12 inch globes, but they are calling them gazing balls. I don't know if you can hang them or not? Most I have found are 4 to 6 inches.

Yes, gazing balls are pretty readily available even in places like Big Lots, but they are not for hanging. I have browsed the Kugelhouse site and they have some beautiful pieces.
