Hello! I got unusually lucky last week and won a "glass" vase at an auction for $0.25. As it turns out this is 24% lead crystal vase that was made here in the USA. What a beautiful and significant find! Here's my question: the vase is actually two pieces. The top part sets inside of the bass. There is a half-dollar size hole in the bottom of the vase and the base has a knob protruding from it that somewhat blocks the hole but does not seal it, so it cant hold water. I've never seen one like this and I'm not sure of how to use it. Can anyone help me? Please forgive me if this is a silly question but even with all the coffee I have had I still can't wrap my mind around this.

Well, Bev, I don't know! It is pretty tall and very heavy. I guess since my heart is into Thank You! everything gardening I automatically assumed it is a flower vase. I think I'll have to consider what you're suggesting that it may be something totally different. Thank you!

@IJsbrandtGA, I agree that you have a gorgeous find there. I learned something today because I had no idea that candle holders for tapered candles were made like this. I can just see it with a beautiful autumn candle ring around the base on the dining room table!

I did a search and found this one on ebay.

Terri......I think it's a very nice crystal vase with a fitted base that locks in the bottom of the vase. In the enlarged pic I can see the base is designed to lock in the bottom of the vase so it won't tip over.

Either way guys it can be a vase or candle holder... I'm not sure how a candle will sit securely on the knob shaped area in the base. Maybe if it's a wide candle it can sit inside the vase area. But really when I think about it , it's not a hurricane shape at all. I have some hurricane candle holders and the candles must be secured tightly and there's nothing in the pic that will hold any candle securely. Besides I wouldn't want to get candle wax all over it there is no way to hold the candle straight. Maybe I need a pair of glasses but that looks a beautiful Crystal Vaas!

Congrats on the win!

Could it be for growing bulbs. The glass bottom would hold the bulb up out of the water and the hole in the bottom would allow water for the bulb. Just guessing like everyone else. I really don't get the concept of a candle holder. Why have the hole in the bottom that is plugged up when you sit it on the base?

I've never seen one of these before in a vase, but I'd agree it's a bottom watering system.. Or is now! Definitely going to keep my eyes out for one of these.. Any idea on the brand? Thanks for sharing this!
You either serve the whole, or you serve the hole.. The difference can be subtle if you don't pay attention.
