Had visitors yesterday and we hiked around parts of Ottawa and then spent quite a bit of time on our feet at the National Gallery of Canada. Back here for dinner, but not an overload. Had a cold poached salmon, potato salad, fresh corn and a tossed salad.

Like Margaret, we have Thanksgiving next week, but I'm planning to ignore it. Heading to the USA for a 55 year reunion of my high school graduating class.

I haven't posted much on this page. Back at the end of June I joined Weight Watchers, have lost 20 pounds so far. I feel much better, even stayed on the program while visiting my sister for 22 days, got her to join too, (that did help me stay on track).
I haven't gotten into exercising as I should, even though I enjoyed walking while I was on vacation, I just can't get motivated.

Hi Robin, that's great losing that much weight in a short time, walking is a very good form of exercise that will help you keep the weight off. Thumbs up

Welcome to our little corner, Robin! It sounds like you're doing great!

Ann, if I can be nosy, where did you grow up, and how did you get to Canada?

I had a lazy, boring day. I tried to sit most of the day with my leg elevated, trying to rest that leg. The highlight of the day was when my son called and we talked for over an hour. Since he lives in the Pacific time zone, due to the 3 hour time difference, we generally only talk on Sundays and we always look forward to it. We usually only see him a couple of times a year.

I hope my leg is OK tomorrow so I can get back to my normal routine.

Margaret and I cross-posted. I agree that walking is great exercise and, compared to many other types of exercise, easy! I walk pretty much.

I was born and brought up in New York State. From the time I was 9 in the Rochester area. Went to the University of Illinois to do a Masters and there was a Canadian living in the same grad-student dorm. The rest is history.

Interesting... My best friend from childhood lived in Rochester for 40 years, recently retired to Florida.

We went for a walk today. My husband has plantar fasciitis but still goes walking with me. I had that once. It lasted for a year but only bothered me first thing in the morning. His bothers him any time he walks. He doesn't think a doctor can do anything and he'd say that he doesn't have time to go to the doctor anyways.

Many years ago my DH was diagnosed with plantar fascitis and was sent to a podiatrist, he got fitted for orthotics, they were a great help and he has been wearing them since then, they are pricey but worth it. Your DH could also try the Dr Schools semi custom fit where they have the set up that you stand on and it tells you what size and kind that you need, that also helped DH to add to his slippers.

I developed plantar fasciitis in the mid '90s when I did a lot of figure skating - all the stress of inside and outside edges gave it to me. Bothered me for quite awhile including visits to a podiatrist and orthotics, but only went away when I found a different type of running shoe that really fit my very narrow foot properly. It certainly is worth looking at a different type of shoe. I still wear an orthotic, but not from the podiatrist, it's from a clinic that does them and our health insurance will cover 80% of a new pair every year or two.

Yes, orthotics are very helpful. But a podiatrist could also teach him foot exercises and stretches for the feet and lower legs to relieve that pain.

We went to the gym this morning and exercised for an hour. So far my leg is OK.

I started my exercise today by taking the window unit air conditioning out for the winter. Then I did errands, picked tomatoes and delivered them. Lastly I took Lily dog on our daily exercise walk. Done enough for today.

I did some housework, then went outside and planted a little volunteer maple seedling that showed up this spring, I potted it up and it grew beautifully, was going to have a great shape, then a deer jumped the fence and ate the top off. Grumbling Also planted a goose-neck loosestrife my sister gave me, it is a lovely plant. It was hard work digging those holes, dirt is hard as a rock. Glare

Keep a close eye on that loosestrife, Margaret. It's beautiful but can be invasive.

Yes, I know Karen, I will deadhead right after it blooms, same as the other one I have. They sure are pretty plants.

By the way, if anybody's interested in resistant starch, that pasta that had been frozen did not spike my husband's glucose. He was a little low before dinner, had his normal insulin, and his glucose was normal (for him) at bedtime.

I also read that freezing some starchy foods like pasta, potato, and rice, to create resistant starch, cuts the carb calories from 4 calories per gram to 2 calories per gram.

Did a walk yesterday morning for about an hour and got into the garden for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Am about to head into the garden now.

Karen, that's good to know about the freezing of pasta/rice to reduce the carbs in them, did you undercook the pasta so it wasn't too mushy? Great that it worked for your DH. Thumbs up
