I need to take a few pics of my feeders. I love to bird watch and we have several goldfinch. What is the best type of feeder for thistle seed?
I got a feeding station last wk and it has a place for water but it is getting below 32 so I will do that later.

I saw a nice thistle feeder at the F&S store, it looked like black screen wire. I need to investigate a little more to be sure the squirrels don't tear it up. I bought a peanut feeder and a small suet feeder to put inside my big suet feeder, got idea from neighbor because he bought one that way. but the small one are only 2.00 so I made my own feeder in a feeder! I like to agrivate the squirrels as much as they agrivate me.
BTY my new NONO feeder has become a favorite of the Cardinals and Chickadees, I am happy it is working out very well and the feeder does not have a squirrel problem.

I always loved the upside down thistle feeders best. The Goldfinches really take to that type right away. To feed them naturally in the sumertime, grow some sunflowers in your yard from any type of black oil seeds and the Goldfinches will find them and eat out the seeds. They know when those seeds are ready, you don't have to do anything.

Rita, I had thistle out for a long time and the finches would fly right by it to get to the black oil sunflower seeds. Maybe it was the feeder, I will try the upside down kind.

Teresa, the starlings are not a problem around here, I love to see them take a bath, they are so social there will be fifteen of them taking a bath at same time, its so funny! They never go near the feeders just walk around the ground looking for worms and insects.
The crows drive me crazy they bring the road kill and drop squirell parts in my birdbath, also chicken bones from trash cans or nearby dumpsters. They have some idea they can soften a bone if it soaks long enough, last thing I found was a squirrels tail. ewe gross!
