Catmint,
I have the same problem. The hummies don't care for ANY nectar I put out. We only have two that come and they are now gone for the season. I have tried various store bought and home made.

I guess they just prefer my natural stuff Rolling on the floor laughing

Make it yourself. Do Not Put in RED Food Coloring! Use 4 cups of water to 1 cup of sugar. Boil water just to dissolve the sugar then cool.

My birds seem to love my Humzinger feeder. Very easy to wash by hand, and is dishwasher safe. It also seems indestructible. It has been blown away often in our midwest storms but never breaks.

I should also say, the built in moat keeps ants away.

I have tried a lot of feeders and my favorite it Dr. JB's Clean Feeder, it is super easy to clean, the glass jar container sits flat for easy filling, and all parts can go in the dishwasher.

I found the Humzinger spills if it is windy, and I think the hummers drink the water in the mote, Hilarious! tiny wasps and flies still manage to crawl in and drown as with most feeders.

Amazing photo, Christine! I don't know how much difference it makes, but I use water from those water machines that dispense water to make the nectar. Our tap water out here isn't very good, so nothing but the best for the little hummers! And I try to avoid the icky stuff that can accumulate in a cleaner by careful cleaning with special brushes and vinegar solution. If a feeder goes bad, the hummers will avoid it from then on. Preying mantids can attack hummers...always check around feeders and all the flowering plants to eliminate those...often they are just waiting for them.

I just hope that no hummers are caught by this cold front before they get where they're going. I haven't seen any in a while, but some Rufous hummers might show up one of these days...cold doesn't bother them so much. The bees have been a problem on the warmer days, they'd congregate on the hummer feeder, so I had to put out nectar separately for them. Now it's too cold for bees for the time being.

Hurray! Love it! We haven't had any hummers this winter, sadly. Maybe the Rufous had problems and less of them are overwintering in Texas.
