Ceci - I enjoyed your photos! You get some really beautiful hummingbirds there! How many different species of hummingbirds are known in your region?

BTW - I love your epi bloom avatar! Lovely!!!

I only see hummingbirds in Winter. I host them from late Fall through early Spring here along the east coast of Central Florida. The only species I seem to be able to attract to my yard for the Winter are the Ruby-throated hummingbirds. I did have the good fortune to see a Rufous for about a day and a half, but she was just here for a pit-stop to use my feeder and then she headed out to wherever she was going.

I had a bander come to my yard recently to band the 3 male Ruby-throated hummingbirds that I am hosting this Winter. They were also color-marked on their head with pink fabric paint so that I can tell if I only have those 3 or if there are more. It appears for now, I just have those 3 "boys".

Here is a very short slide-show of the banding activities for anyone who is interested:

[quote="LindaTX8"]My neighborhood hummies had visitiors today. Ruby-Throats, maybe?

In the evening I had to bring the feeder in to rinse it out and fill it. When I came back, the male Black-chinned was waiting very impatiently...like how dare I remove HIS feeder? As I put it up he zoomed in close and showed me his purple gorget...ooh, so pretty...

Hi Becky ! I'm glad you enjoyed the hummingbird photo!
I've posted a photo of the Emerald male in post 377010 (1) It is beautiful and it has really bright feathers.
The other kind of Hummingbird that comes to my feeders is the Gilded Sapphire. It is greenish golden with a coppery tail.
I live in the province of Buenos Aires. There is another common hummingbird here . It is a white throated hummingbird. I have seen it in some woods and in the country. But it is rarely seen in the city
There are many other beautiful hummingbirds in Argentina, but they live in the North, mostly in the province of Misiones.

troyericar - Welcome to ATP! How lucky you are to have a Black-chin! I rarely see anything but RTHs (Ruby-throated hummers). But I truly enjoy them whenever they come to visit!

Cecilia - Wow! You absolutely get some fantastic hummingbirds! How exciting that must be!!! They are so colorful. I think some of them are bigger than the Ruby-throated hummingbirds that I get. I have heard that regions in Central and South America have some amazing hummers. Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos!

If you stand very still and hold the feeder at arms length from your face I have had the Hummers feed from the feeder while holding it. A fun experience. Works well in the early morning or just before the final feeding in the evening when they seem more aggressive and fearless in wanting to eat. Smiling
