They are showing up more and more often. The local Home Depot had them last week. Hilarious!

I usually look for how and where native populations are growing. Its hard to find info on Pilia pepermoides but what I did find says they are found on rocks in the rain forests at the base of the Himalayas. So, mine grows in a dark corner of my greenhouse under the Spanish moss where its watered daily. Its planted in straight Leca. I posted a photo once before while it was blooming. If my plant is any indication, they don't stand up without support - they might make good hanging basket plants.

That's good to hear, such a cute plant. Maybe I will see one.

That looks wonderful! Love the Spanish moss too. Do you think the GH corner is much more bright than somewhere in a house that's not right by a window? If I heard about your GH before, I don't remember. I have a little shed that I loosely refer to as a GH when plants are in it because they need protection from a frost but it's way too hot during the warm part of the year to leave anything in there all the time. And too shady when the trees have leaves. Do you have to do anything to keep it from getting too hot?

If the stem never lignifies, it makes sense that it would eventually lean over and kind of creep along the ground.

Your comments touch on an interesting dilemma that has happened to everyone I bet, when you think a plant is going to do something that you later learn it just doesn't do, or you don't have the conditions necessary to get the look you were expecting.

I tried with Pilea pep, never made it very happy and gave it away. I did see a few at the grocery store some months ago. If I want that sort of look, I'd for sure go something Peperomia.
Plant it and they will come.

Tiffany, yes a greenhouse. I don't try to keep it cool but have a lot of fans keeping the air moving. In summer I use a misting fan. It often hits 100 inside but nothing seems to mind.

I gave my daughter a piece of the Pilea which she kept on her kitchen sink so she could remember to water it. It didn't do well until she moved it to a darker spot so I think if you could keep the humidity up, it would do well in a house. I tried my sunroom first and even though its pretty shady, the Pilea was going down hill. The GH was a desperation move.

Everyone does assume they grow straight up because that's what all the pictures show. I know I did. But it just wanted to flop and I gave up. I'm a firm believer in letting my plants have their way. Rolling on the floor laughing

My experience was similar to Sally's. A neighbor insisted on giving me one in spite of my protests. My house is extremely dry and I simply don't want high maintenance indoor plants...no way could I replicate Lucy's GH conditions! I finally explained that I was certain it would die at my house and returned it to her.

I found a good substitution for ivy:
when i first saw it in window baskets i thought it was some unknown to me ivy! I don't know how it performs indoors though.

Worth a try. One user from NY sounds like he has it as an indoor plant- I think.
Plant it and they will come.

That is a great comparison! Those leaves are wonderful. I wonder why it doesn't seem to be more prevalent?
