Is it a slow grower from seed? My guess is yes but that's a guess. In my zone would in be better grown inside under lights?

I'd rather wintersow anything than grow it under lights, but I do grow a few things under lights. If sown outside in milk jugs in spring, I'm sure it would grow, but I won't be happy with it if it's not visible in pots until July.

I have grown this from seed. I have never WS sown it. I plant in the greehhouse in feb. Is a nice size four inch by May. I have bought this from different sources and every year the seed comes smashed. Grumbling Grumbling Its a pellet. This year I ordered from HPS catalog and they sent in a box so the seed is good.
What comes from seed is the older variety with smallish flowers. Not like the new varieties with 1/2 blooms. The flowers are more like the size of a pencil eraser maybe a bit bigger.

Thanks, springcolor. It's sounds like they'd be best started inside as I'd guessed.

My seeds are the blutopia seeds from Pinetree. Just a few seeds, enough to try. Though mailed in a bubble enveloped, they are in those little plastic vials inside the packet, and the pellets are intact. I do like Pinetree seeds.

If I remember right they are a bit lighter in color than what they have pictured. More a light lavender.

I sowed 8 cells of bacopa and all have tiny sprouts. I sowed the other 12 cells with my (old) verbena seeds and not one sprout on those yet. They're in a compact rootrainer kit. I removed the dome after the bacopa sprouted and have the verbena covered with Saran wrap and bottom heat. When I grew them before they were slow, so maybe I'll eventually get a few.

I've grown bacopa from seed for a few years. They are slow to grow, needing 2-4 week longer than most petunias. The Blue is more of a lavender colour than blue.

I'm such a bad plant Mom. I let my bacopa seedlings dry out badly. They went from so healthy looking to crispy critters. After a deep watering 6 of the 8 look OK. I think the other two might be goners. Shrug!

Ugh, I'm awful. By this time of year I'm just tired of babying this stuff in the house. Makes no difference if they're seedlings or cuttings.

I'm much happier after everything is in the ground. I don't even do very many summer containers anymore, just because of all tending they need. Stuff in the ground tends to fend for itself pretty well!

No, I got over that long ago. Hilarious! Last year it was impatiens. They went from big healthy seedlings to crispy critters in a day.

That's too bad Karen. On the bright side, the varieties that most garden centres sell are vegetative, not from seed, and the flowers are huge.

It's my own fault for not watering. Smiling

I was going to put them in pots with petunias, but those wintersown petunias haven't sprouted. I think they should have by now as petunias are usually early germinators among my wintersowns. I only had 4 or 5 petunia seeds left from 3 or 4 years ago. So I might have to buy a few petunias. But it's still early.
