I wouldn't want winter blooming daylilies here either. But that gave me another idea. How about daylilies that bloom all spring, summer and into the fall? Now that would be something! Hurray!

Betja said:Mona, you probably already know about this, but as long as a daylily is registered you can quickly check the stats on it by accessing the AHS database:

http://www.daylilies.org/Dayli...

Just type in the name and it will give you the registration information, including whether it's a Diploid or Tetraploid. That will save you time if you want to make crosses, since you can't breed between the two. Both parents have to be the same or it won't take. I've now identified all my daylilies with a D or T for decision making.

I don't use the AHS database anymore. All the info is here, on ATP in the database. Plus we can click on the parentage names really easy! And it lists "children" on our database. I really like the information in ATP database. We have some areas that people can add - such as rust resistance and fertility. Hoping someday enough people will fill in that info so it is also useful.

If you have any questions on using the database, doing searches etc... look at this thread by Calif_Sue, or tree mail her.

Steph, you would have to wade thru the snow to see it. In fact it would have to be on a very tall scape as otherwise would be buried by the snow. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Well, maybe not this year as it has been warmer than usual with less snow (almost none here) but most years.

It'd have to open well in very cool (cold) weather. I'd have to plant it by a window in order to enjoy it's blooms, cause I don't like being out in nasty cold weather! Hilarious!

"The other thing would be breed for thrip resistance. Some already do, like Karol Emmerich. She really pays attention to thrip resistance and her deep purples are never thrip magnets, unlike some others in dark colors in the garden. "

Rita - What do you mean by someone paying attention to thrip resistance? Are you saying that Karol's deep purples are more thrip resistance than other deep purples? Based on what?

I mean that Karol does breed for Thrip resistance in that she didscards purple seedlings that show thrip damage. I doubt anyone else does that.

I notice some plants sitting right next to each other can be so different and am determined to make note of the ones that are more resistant to insects and which ones this year. It has to be in the genetics and that would be great to breed for.

That's a good idea to watch for things like that too. Never crossed my mind to put down insect and other damage in my observation notes. Gotta remember that for this summer ~ Jan

I would love to see more rebloom with larger bud counts. Plus cultivars that poly more often. That DESTINED TO SEE poly pic was awesome!

BARACUDA BAY polys for me some it is nice but no pic to upload :(

I'd love to have a really deep blue purple with a half inch or better white edge and a white eye. Of course the plant needs to bloom in mid May and rebloom several times. It needs to be a 7 or 8" bloom with the scape around 36". Then add about 30 - 40 buds for me because I don't have a plant that has anywhere near this number of blooms. I read where some get this number of buds but it's just not happening for me on any plant I have. Let's see, oh yes, it must be fertile both ways and pass all it's good traits on to it's babies. Is there anything else, yeap. It must multiply by atleast 10 x per fan each year!! That's about it for this one, now I'll have to dream up another.

Blessings, Mona

I prefer slow increasers. I don't like digging and dividing all the time! One fan every year or two is fine for me! Rolling my eyes.

Yeah, that might be a bit much once the 3rd year rolled around I'd have 1000 fans and I do believe that would be a just a few more than I wanted. I do think that might get dubbed invasive!!!

That's the reason I need someone to keep my dreams in check. Thanks to you'll, Mona

The prettier the daylily, the slower the increase it seems. I have had requests from customers to list any with teeth or ruffles but I never have enough. I think I have had some for 5 years that I still only have 3 fans of. Those are the ones that I wish would increase a lot faster.

I know that someone asked me for one of my fans of BASS GIBSON. But even though I have had it for years, I only had 3 fans last summer (started with one) . So some daylilies are really slow increasers and no, they did not get a fan. Not enough to dig.

Gee, and here I thought it was only me -- and mainly because I never fertilized before! But I'm learning, and hopefully I'll get more growth this year. Most of mine just seem to stay the same each year, which is probably good for me because I don't know how to divide them and am afraid I would kill the plants.
