FYI, Dave has now imported all the registration info into our database including the zone according to foliage type and bloom traits like eyed, watermark, halo, etc. so all the details are filled in, all we need are photos and any additional details that are not included in the registration. Most of that kind of info can be found on the hybridizer's websites and of course your own personal experience with a plant.

To get to the database, click on the Plant Database tab at the top and then you can simply type in the cultivar name of the daylily in the search box. Occasionally, that name could be shared by other plants like iris or roses, you simply select the plant that you want. You can also browse by genus (hemerocallis) and look for the cultivar alphabetically, which is helpful if you are unsure of the exact spelling.
To add an image, you can find the ink on the left side or any entry or scroll down to bottom of the entry and you will see the 'Upload a Photo' link.

If you want to make any notes or comments, please use the 'Post a comment about this plant' on the main entry page.

On the Daylily search page, The Daylilies Database
you can type in a cultivar name and as you start typing, it pops up a drop down menu for suggested names. Green Grin!

Here is a link to the AHS Daylily Dictionary of Terms, which may be helpful for anyone not sure of a term found in a registration.

You know what I just noticed, there isn't an Edge No Eye description and I think that has some confused. Edge No Eye is something that several hybridizer's are focused on now in their programs so it's something we need a clearer understanding of for the sake of the search function. It's different from a daylily without an eye pattern and a ruffled or gold edge.

Edge No Eye has been traditionally a light daylily, say white, cream or a light pink or peach and then a darker outer edge.
Older examples are Beautiful Edgings
and Swedish Girl

Here are a few from hybridizer's websites as examples:

Oh, another thing that has come up a few times, there seems to be some confusion as to what Self means.
http://www.daylilies.org/ahs_d...

So it means the bloom is all the same color and usually the hybridizer does register it that way within their written descriptions although not always. So if the description says blend, that is a "Flower with an intermingling of two or more colors," so it is not a Self.

The AHS year is not always the same on the Hybridizers site. Is one using the year it was introduced and the other the year it was germinated??

No, the AHS has the year that the daylily name was reserved, the hybridizer sites are the year it was introduced. They often reserve a name and have a time frame in which to register a daylily with that name or it expires so it can now be open for someone to use the name.
We have updated the ATP entry details to read "Year of Registration or Introduction" so either is fine, although I think for the most part we have been entering what's on the AHS registration page.

The majority of the daylilies are Single, that is not something that is noted on the registrations. So if it's not a Double, Spider, or Unusual Form, Dave's robot now will automatically check off Single. So if it's the standard classic 3 petal, 3 sepal bloom form it is a Single.

Sue,

What about awards that the Daylilies get? Will there be a section that we can check like we did at DG, do you know?

We want to encourage people to add comments. Comments are good because it may not make prolifs for everyone, this way you can see who wrote it and where they are from and even ask them additional questions. The comments are for the plants, anything that someone would want to add that would be helpful, like it's a fast increaser, or reblooms several times or maybe it's even something negative, all these types of comments are helpful.

I had concerns over all our photos having easy access to being copied off the database so I just asked Dave about disabling the right click copy option and he just did. It still can be used for the small thumbnails but hopefully those are too small to be of much use to anyone. Of course, those who know how can still lift them but at least this is an added security for our photos and a deterrent for anyone wishing to take them.

As posted by Dave today:

"When you are viewing a daylily, you can now click on the name of the parent to be taken to that parent's plant page."

and

I am pleased to say that the child plants feature is now ready. Under the Parentage you will see "Child plants" with a number of how many child plants have been bred by the cultivar. Click that to see the full list of children plants.

If that word is part of the description, it is automatically checked up in the Bloom Traits. So check that trait, 'Toothed or Fringed Edge' and maybe check other traits, like limit it to Tet's only.
And if the word teeth, tooth, fringe is not part of the description, as well as other traits like sculpted, pleated etc., and that daylily clearly has those features, please submit a proposal to add that in. I have been adding them as I come across them but I am only one person! Blinking Green Grin!

Do we have a section somewhere that groups the Stout winners together? I would love to see if because I am trying to start a Stout bed.

It is updated several times a year as the AHS makes additions. Most of the 2017 have been added but there are always late additions, I just checked the daylily database in the search function using the " Search by characteristics (height, bloom color, etc) and entering just the 2017 in the introduction year and got 1,865 results found.
It's probably time for another update.
