Lyle, that little toothy yellow is adorable! Is that one of your seedlings? FANTASTIC! I really love it! And I've been wondering if anyone was trying for teeth on the smalls/minis.

That is one of my seedling that was sent to Rudy's garden, i think his wife may start working with the minis. That could be a nice program a lot of collectors like the little ones.

I plan on using Christina Cook (mini) for the great bud count ....I think Spacecoast Lipstick Kisses x Christina Cook (or reverse the cross) would be a fun cross...

I would love to have daylilies that give me 4-5 months of continuous bloom.

Me too! I'm moving away from irises because almost all of the bloom is over two months in the spring, and the rebloomers are just not that reliable. At least most daylilies rebloom here, but continuous bloom over several months would be fantastic!

Lyle, I love your CHRISTINA COOK. The one you sent me hasn't bloomed yet, but the plant looks great so I have high hopes. Seems like most of the smalls/minis I have are Dips, but I'm working on getting more Tets. If you check the Salters' website they're working on adding their Spring 2012 introductions, and Elizabeth has some really nice ones -- but I don't know if they're Dips or Tets yet. You have to click on the red or blue boxes to see pictures of their new ones, and as of this morning they still don't have any descriptions yet. I would love to work with the smalls/minis too, trying for the toothy edges.

OH great!!! I find the little ones just plum irresistable. I have several little ones, but I don't know which catagory they fit into. Now, I want more!!!! Lots more. Pixie Perfect is awesome. That darned list just keeps on growing and growing. Let's see, where would they be put??? I don't know, but I'll find room somewhere.

Please post more for this cool cloudy winter day. I need color.

Mona, you probably already know about this, but as long as a daylily is registered you can quickly check the stats on it by accessing the AHS database:

http://www.daylilies.org/Dayli...

Just type in the name and it will give you the registration information, including whether it's a Diploid or Tetraploid. That will save you time if you want to make crosses, since you can't breed between the two. Both parents have to be the same or it won't take. I've now identified all my daylilies with a D or T for decision making.

Hi Betty, Yes, I use the DB at AHS alot. I've discovered the "Advanced search" and the "parentage" option. I use it when I'm thinking about purchasing a new daylily to see if it has registered babies. This really effects my decision on some of the ones that are several years old and just might have some babies listed. I know that the really new ones probably won't have any listed yet but if my "wants" are 2 years old are older(most of mine are), they could have a few listed anyway. A good example, I haven't really been impressed by Alexa Kathryn in my garden. I looked it up last night to see if it had any good babies and WOW! It has 51 registered babies that show up. I'd be proud to raise any of them, so there goes one that I had thought about selling. I'll be using it more this year.

I have been very impressed by all the work that has been done on the AHS website in the last few years. Someone has done loads of work. I would recommend joining to everyone. The benefits are far reaching and very beneifical to all.

Thanks Betty and if you have anymore info, please share with me. There's so much that I don't know and I always like to chat. Blessings, Mona

I agree! Most blooms don't open fully until around noon here in the pnw.
Cool mornings are the norm here, even on 90 degree days.

Sherry and Joy,

Same here.

I live on the coast north of Boston so often the nights and mornings are too cool for the flowers to even open correctly. I have to stay away from many southern beauties and those with chicken fat edges because of it.

Story -
Several years ago Country Gardens Magazine came here for a garden shoot unexpectedly after a cancellation locally. I decided to have the the daylilies featured (gives herself a gold star * ).
Crew came at 7AM! Now normally my flowers would have been open around 10 but that early Aug day, it was cool as well as early so I had to ditch my planned features and run around hunting for anything that was open!!! I should share more sometime. It was quite an event.

Have any of you really noticed that if you have any of the older daylilies they usually dry out and fall off nicely by themselves while many of the newest modern very heavy and ruffled flowers turn into a big pile of mush that really, really needs deadheading or it just melts onto the other buds on the scape and interfears with opening? I really, really would love the self deadheading too and hope more hybridizers pay attention to what happens after a flower blooms and not just the bloom itself.

I also want more late and very late bloom, I love when hybridizers work with late bloomers. And rebloom. I want northern rebloomers. The other thing would be breed for thrip resistance. Some already do, like Karol Emmerich. She really pays attention to thrip resistance and her deep purples are never thrip magnets, unlike some others in dark colors in the garden.
