THanks everyone for your encouraging comments. I think my peonies are fine and I am not too worried about potential damage from this storm. I am glad that Mother Nature gets this out of her system this month rather than later. I hope we will have a warm up in April with no more freezes or snowstorms though. I look forward to see everyone's blooms from the south. I am sure your peonies are getting ready to burst into blooms as soon as the weather cooperates.

My yard is a duplicate of yours except where Damien has shoveled snow so it is feet higher in those spots. At least a month to even see the ground in spots. Seems to be running in the teens at night and is headed to the 30's in the day. Melting slowly.

I usually keep the garage door locked but must have forgotten yesterday. It was super windy and blew the door open about a foot during the night. The stack robber started up and ran to keep the temp up. My little seedlings across the garage look okay. No damage.

What a rude awakening that must have been Mary Stella! Glad your seedlings are okay. What is a stack robber?

Anyone here growing Burma Midnight? I'm concerned about mine, no growth showing yet. This is its 2nd year in the garden and its planted in a bed where I added several other reds that same fall and the rest of them have surfaced. Curious if anyone else has noticed it being a late one to emerge.

Neal, a stack robber is a heater than works off our boiler. It has it's own thermostat so I can turn it off or set the garage temperature to any temp I want. I hangs from the ceiling with piping to the boiler. Has louvers so I can direct the warm air up or down as I want. As the name implies, I am only taking warm air from the exhaust stack, so it is 'robbing' warm exhaust air.

I found this onlilne as my descriptive skills aren't too great:
The Stack Robber or Heat Exchanger is a great way to get more out of your stove. It takes some of the heat from the stove pipe and puts it back into your (in my case) garage.

Mary, glad your seedlings are okay!

Neal, I don't have Burma Midnight, but I have a plant that I got from Michigan Bulb Co. called Midnight, I wonder if it is the same thing? My plant is up.

I checked on my plants when I got home this evening to ensure that they were okay, it got down to 31 degrees last night, and none of them were covered. I was disheartened to find that my Hillary had multiple branches cut. I don't know if this was done by an animal or the yard folks that came to mow and clean up the yard today.

Here's my poor Hillary, several of the cut stems had buds on them 😰🤭😩!

Oh, so bad, Annette! Such a disappointment!!! I hope the bush at least grow a few more leaves, it needs to produce and store energy for the nest year. Sad

That is so awful, Annette. Are there stems left with buds? Hope you're getting some flowers from it this spring....

Neal, nothing is up here except fernies (barely) and a couple of species so I'm not a good reference for you. Don't remember when it typically shows.

Ah yes Mary, I've seen those! I never knew what they were called.

Annette, I'm so sorry about your Hillary. That's so infuriating! I can't imagine what would have done that.

I'll keep an eye out for Burma Midnight, hopefully it's just later to emerge than the other reds. I felt around just under the soil surface and didn't find anything, but I was being very light handed - I've broken off sprouts in the past doing that.

So sorry about the branches on Hillary. Take comfort in that a few of the branches on one of my Hillaries have turned black from the weather. I will be cutting them off tomorrow.

I did suffer some damages from this week's below freezing weather, but remain optimistic. So many came through just fine.

Sorry to hear about your Hillary, Annette. I am glad that there are still some stems with buds left. On the plus side, these may bloom bigger now that more energy is diverted to the remaining buds.

Thank you guys for your supportive words! Hillary still had several stems, and 2 buds on the plant.

There were multiple stems, including 4 of them with buds that were cut off, I've put the stems with buds in water, and I'll see if they do anything.

LG, sorry to hear that some of your plants were affected by the cold weather.

I checked the other peonies this evening. Lorelei has 1 stem with bud blast, and 3 other plants have a few leaves that were affected, I've clipped them off. I'm overall very happy that most of the plants had no damage from the freezing temps.

I'm being teased by this bud that's attempting to open on this noid peony.

We'll be getting warmer weather starting on Wednesday, with more rain, and no further freezing temps forecasted over the next 2 weeks.

Woke up to 6" of snow this morning and teen temps, more low temps and moisture (please, PLEASE rain--no more snow!!) coming later this week. Spring will happen here, someday....
Looking forward to seeing all of the lovely growth that'll happen with your warm spells, Annette and Karen!

Looking forward to seeing your photos of the first peony flowers in 2018, LG, Annette and Karen!

Spring is around the corner, Liz Smiling It's sunny and warm here but still far from really melting snow. Three more weeks and temps should be above freezing. Crossing Fingers!
