Oh, that's sweet of you JB! I think it may be a little bit too cold overnight still to try to send plants, tho. Wouldn't want the poor little things to get frozen in the mail!

I forgot you are in WA. Also, I would have to ship to you Bareroot (which is no problem for spiders) because you are West of the Mississippi and my Nursery regulations state that I have to do that. nodding
If you decide you want any after this miserable weather breaks, please feel free to tree mail me.

I would like to pick your brain a second if I may. This guy on eBay Advertised this little baby as a Hawaiian Spider. What do you think it is? I can not see any variegation on this plant. NONE! If the babies are to be variegated...I can not have purchased a Hawaiian Spider. What do you think? Should I tell him he is not selling what he said he is? I am not concerned about the money as much as the idea he is not selling what he advertises. Maybe he does not know.

It has picked up a little. It was looking really sad when it arrived. But it was turning yellow as you can see.

I guess the question is: how soon do the baby plants turn from variegated to solid green? Can anyone who actually has the real thing answer that?

Oh crap....I never thought of that. But, this is darn little. I doubt it is truly a Hawaiian. Grumbling Who or where can I find out. More research. Grumbling Grumbling

I just got to wondering if the color change occurs after the baby is severed from the mother plant. ?? Maybe?

Woofie, look at this one. What do you think? I think they call all spiders Hawaiian because they grow there. Rolling on the floor laughing

Ha! Maybe they do call them all "Hawaiian!" Although, if you look closely at that photo, the base plant appears to be a dark green with a very slight lighter stripe in the center, and the babies are much lighter. The leaves on the babies appear to have dark outer stripes and a light green center. But do we even have a Hawaiian spider plant in the database? Don't seem to see one?

Look at this link and look at the second picture down with the tiny flower in the middle.

Now, look at this eBay page and tell me if that is the same picture. If it is, I wonder if they are the same person? And is it a real Hawaiian ? Why would it not be listed in DG as one.

Hmmm, no I don't think that's the same picture. One of the lower petals is somewhat damaged. But that eBay picture looks very like what has been described as "Hawaiian." I did come across a web page with a bit more information on this variety:
http://rootsnursery.com/differ...
And this site actually names a cultivar:
http://gemsandstems.ecrater.co...

Odd that such a common houseplant has so little detailed information available online.

Woofie, I just bought a Hawaiian from the woman at gemsandstems (your link above) and I ask her about when the babies change. Here is her answer.

Usually they stay variegated until they are removed & root themselves in a pot. Though I've had a few overgrown babies that have turned green right on the plant and sent out runners all their own while still connected to the mother plant. You will see that the babies I send to you are in the stage of turning from variegated to green. They still have a slight chartreuse green in center of the leaves.

She is really very nice and I will show pictures when her babies arrive. She seems to know quite a bit about spiders. I hope we learn something here. Rolling on the floor laughing

Well, now, that was what I was wondering: when do the babies change color. From what she said, there is a chance that the ones you bought on eBay could still turn out to be Hawaiians. It should be interesting to compare the two!

She has a lovely little store and she is very helpful. We will see. I can only hope, but, she also said that the ones I got on a trade that were to be pure green could also be Hawaiian. What a time I am having learning. I just wish people would know what they have before they trade. Especially when I am too stupid to know the difference. Rolling on the floor laughing

Well, I'm enjoying learning along with you! I'd never heard of Hawaiian spider plants before; they sound like something I'd like. I rather like the solid green ones, so the Hawaiian spider plants sound like the best of both!

If you come across other varieties, or have time to look for any, please let me know. I would like to get as many different ones that I can. I have such fun growing them and some sell but many I give away to family and friends. They are such easy houseplants and so pretty when they are cared for. Keep in touch.

I am expecting the new Hawaiians from the lady tomorrow or Friday at the latest. Hopefully it is not too cold.
What a cold day this is. Snow on ground again and frigid winds about 35 to 40 gusts.

Have you people seen this one?
Bichetii Siam Spider Plant - Easy to Grow - Cleans the Air - NEW - 4" Pot

I saw it under Amazon Hirt's Garden Houseplants. Supposed to be brand new. Last year they advertised 8 unrooted varieties, I wish I had gotten them.

Sorry for posting again but @JB and @Woofie, Hirt's offers the Hawaiian too.

I get mixed results from them as far as quality that is.
