When I opened this thread I made reference to some negative environmental elements that had the potential to de-rail my forcing project this winter.
Snowboard was one that's suffered due to subjection to freezing temperatures.
Thumb of 2018-03-13/jmorth/57f83a Note the browned foliage, visible damage; 2 or 3 out of 5 bulbs developed bloom.
Another causality was Tweety Bird, a div. 6 yellow Cyclamineus; bud blasted. There's several with some degree of leaf damage and they've all not bloomed well.

Second pot of Iwona, a Cyclamineus div. 6 daffodil. Pic features the cup's color change from opening yellow, then to an orangish hue, then orange-pink at maturity.

They are all so pretty, but that Kaydee could almost tempt me to plant them in a protective contraption to stop the looting the critters always do for me. Can I ask what steps some have had to take to protect them, and if there are any that they leave alone. Very Very fun to see all your pride and joys, Jay.

@lauriebasler
Daffodils usually protect themselves quite handily. The whole plant, especially the bulbs are toxic to garden criminal critters. I use my once forced daffodils around other bulbs, like tulips, crocus, and lilies as a sort of protective barrier with the bonus that they usually bloom again after a year outside, and in years to come.

I got my Kaydee bulbs from M & Z Bulbs (McClure & Zimmerman).

I got Iwona from John Scheepers

Thank you. Your kind of a bulb whisperer. I really enjoying all you are forcing. It's a big project, I admire the commitment it takes.

Interesting story behind Latvian Freedom - It was created by Brian Duncan, but named by Janis Ruksans in 2001. Brian Duncan is a well-respected daffodil breeder from Northern Ireland while Janis Ruksans is a native of Latvia (which used to be controlled by Russia). Ruksans is also a fairly well known European daffodil breeder.

Jack, where did you obtain Latvian Freedom? It looks like a cyclamineus, is that right?

I think Latvian Freedom does appear to posses some Cyclamineus characteristics, ie > kind of downfacing with wings somewhat swept back. I remember reading somewhere that it is also close to a trumpet, (cup length in relation to petal length). Whatever, it is a fine looking daffodil.
