That's the spirit, Molly. You're used to challenging projects, you won't believe how easy wintersowing is!
Here are a few more of my wintersown babies

someone in In sent me seeds that arrived today.Cubits username wasn't on the package. I want to say thank you but can't remember who had offered seeds. I have a bed memory. Tonight in church I was rumaging through my bag looking for my glasses. Suddenly I realized that I was seeing everything in the bag clearly! I was wearing the glasses I was looking for (sigh).

Silly question, but are they the chives you put on a baked potato? I guess I'm thinking of an ornimental chive.BTW, they go great with foxglove. Mike

Yes, Mike, we use them on baked potato and salads. My favorite is adding them to mashed potatoes.

They do bloom with pretty purple flowers in spring and early summer.

And the chive buds and blooms are very tasty in salad or chopped/torn into mashed potaotes. Even better than the stems, I think. : )

Karen, do those seed about much? I have ones with white flowers. I love the flowers and they look awesome dried, but am forever digging out babies. Not easy to get out, either. I'd never get rid of them, but do have a few choice words every now and then, lol!

Bev, after the flowers start to fade, I just sheer them off with scissors. I don't allow them to set seed. They look pretty in spring but later in summer they look kind of big and wild. I keep cutting them off. Last fall I yanked and composted most of them. I think I only left one clump. My beds are too crowded and I need the real estate for other things. I figure they are so easy to start that I can always re-sow if I decide I want them.

I hear ya on the space issue. I suppose I need to deadhead better, but I get busy and a few will get by...sneaky little suckers, lol! Plenty to share I guess. I bought the original ones for .25 from my dd's middle school to support their (then) new greenhouse. They were planted in a Dixie cup.
She's 20 now;)
Your purples are lovely.

Bev, the white ones are probably Garlic Chives, which are worse for seeding around the garden than regular Chives. I'm not always good about deadheading the Chives, and do find a few seedlings, but the Garlic Chives I make sure never to forget- they'll take over.

Hi Terese! Glad you found your way here Smiling

Two more of the cardinal seeds have sprouted so I now have high hopes of having some nice blooms from those this summer.
