This is my original tree peony that I transplanted from the home of a deceased WWII veteran. This plant addicted me. The entire upper plant died off after I transplanted and I had given up and pronounced it dead. Lo and behold when I went to dig around I found new growth just sprouting from the ground. This scion is only 2 years old and the plant has 3 buds.

Lovely. I really do love tree peonies. The herbaceous and intersectionals are beautiful, but somehow the tree peonies are above and beyond both in form and color of bloom, and plant itself.

Gary, I agree, your blooms are beautiful!

Did you get any freezing temps overnight? We were down to 33 degrees this morning, and it felt like it was in the 20's. The plants seemed unaffected when I checked on them this evening.

Well we went down to 32.7° F on Tuesday morning. Then by the evening it was 80°F!
My Princess Chiffon bloom just fell apart without fully opening.
The Adelman's fernleaf hybrid looked good. Photos uploaded.

Hopefully something will open today as we are going to be in the 70's!

Gary, your garden hybrid TP has such unique, dissect foliage, really sets off those blooms! The fragrance must be a real treat! Did you graft the plant from the WW2 vet's home?

Sounds like all of us throughout the southeast are experiencing these crazy ups and downs in temperature. It's becoming exhausting! At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if there's a foot of snow on Derby day!

So beautiful! I particularly like your green bloom of Lu Liu. So glad that the veteran's tree peony sent up new stems and produce such gorgeous flowers. If it is Kamata Nishiki, then you certainly have a rare beauty in your garden.

Linville, I dug the TP from the WWII vet's garden. It was huge, had gigantic root mass, and probably at peak bloom had at least 100 blooms. That is why I fell in love with TPs. With the vet deceased, I decided to move the tree peony to my home. I read as much as I could from this forum and when the time was right, I dug it up and moved it. TPs will either have a huge root mass (like this one), or one large tap root. The ones with the large tap root typically won't survive transplantation. During transport, part of the root mass separated but it had several eyes. I planted it separately and it has not bloomed yet. So I actually got 2 plants out of the mother tree. I think it is either Kamata Nishiki or Guardian of the Monastery. Here are some updated pics.

What a great bargain on those TPs! Gary. I wish we had nursery carry TP around here and won't costs a lot.your second purple looks like" Shimane Chojuraku", it has purple -black flares instead of purple flares.
LG, loved the color of " prosperity Maud". Keep the pictures coming, I only have pear tree flowering right now.

LG, Prosperity Maud is so pretty! I love the apricot shade on it. I don't have this so I will admire your pic and later Liz's if hers bloom this year. Is your fernleaf hybrid Adelman's Orphan or the magenta fernleaf hybrid? The purple coloring is stunning!

LG, that Adelman's fernleaf is an amazing color, and I agree with Karen, I'm loving the peachy apricot color of PM!

Gary, it is wonderful that you were able to save the veteran's tree peony! Great bargain in the other tree peonies. Where did you get them for such a wonderful price? I've bought some that were mislabeled as well, but I'm happy with the blooms.

LG, I feel your frustration about the crazy fluctuations in temperature, we're were at 33 degrees yesterday morning, and at 85 degrees today. Luckily, none of my plants appear to be damaged.

Here are some pics from this evening. A lot of plants have popped open blooms today, thanks to our warm temps.

Gary, it's so wonderful that you moved that tree peony and it revived in your garden! And these prices for tree peonies are amazingly good!

WOW, Annette! Just WOW!!! There is still a lot of snow in our garden! Sighing!

Gary, your TPs are wonderful.

Annette I love the combination of Seashell and Keiko. I split my Seashell a couple of years ago, and it has buds this year!

Your Itohs are all beautiful! I am worried about mine as they have repeatedly been hit by freezes and frosts. Maybe they can power through it. My coral peonies all have some fat buds on them but none have opened. I would say I am at least 10 days behind last year.

Thanks to all that liked my PM. Hopefully those buds will fully open today and I can get some more photos. It does fade once it is open.

I hope everyone gets some relief from all the snow! Hidden Springs posted that they got 9 inches of snow yesterday!! Sighing!

Anna, I hope your snow melts, and that that your plants start emerging soon, with no further inclement weather to come!

Thanks LG! I also hope that your buds haven't suffered any damages. My blooms are ~ 2 weeks behind this year. Please share picture of your PM with the open blooms.

We're were supposed to be in the 30's tonight again😢, however, now the forecast has changed to a low of 41. At least the cooler temps the next few days will help the blooms last longer.

Beautiful show Annette! How strange to keep getting these cold spells, especially as far south as you are! I was mowing yesterday and it was 46 degrees- I don't think that's ever happened. But like you said, the cool is helping the blooms last. No peonies open here yet, but a couple are getting close, but the spring bulbs have been lasting really well.

I've been keeping an eye on Pink Hawaiian Coral and Coral Charm watching for any damage after that 23 degree night about 10 days ago. Someone here had mentioned the damage can show up later, I can't recall who at the moment. The buds are still shiny green orbs and feel firm and healthy! Hurray! We've had some warm sunny days and they've developed further and look close to showing color.

Thanks Neal!

I also hope none of your buds have been damaged by the cold temps. This is our coolest spring in years here in GA. I'm loving the blooms coming later, and lasting longer than in previous years.

Here's Command Performance that has been taking it's time opening this fat bud, next to iris Decadence
