Waterleaf is blooming in the woods, and in my woodland gardens. It's a biennial, so I hope I tossed some seed in the area last year, too.

Largeleaf waterleaf (Hydrophyllum macrophyllum) bloomed first by about a week.




Great waterleaf (Hydrophyllum appendiculatum) followed close behind.

one grows here, H. ovata that is a pretty blue, it blooms in the summer. The mature plants have little thorns!

I might actually have seeds for that one (from a swap), it looks and sounds familiar, but not as something I've seen here yet...I'll have to check.

I may have been the one who tossed those seeds in your trough?

Found some milkweed growing here... I think it's A. verticillata, whichis one of the more toxic varieties. I'm wondering if I should pull it up? It's pretty close to the house...



This is growing in the back meadow, I think it's Orbexilum pedunculatum, Sampson's snakeroot.

If you happen to get any seed from that Snakeroot, I would love to get some.

Christine, sweet Snakeroot. All I've seen here so far, is a white one; although it shows on the map that it could grow here.

But of course I will make sure I get enough seeds!

edited to say it's Big red sage, Salvia pentstemonoides.

I hope my red Noid salvias turn out to be that red. There's no red in our wildflower meadow yet, but there soon will be if all continues to go well with these seedlings.

How exciting, Chelle! I need to do the same with our meadow. I want to try to grow some bluebonnets back there! and why not others?

I'm second guessing the name of that red one up there. hmmm. it may be a different salvia...

Just wanted to say that the red flower up there is Salvia coccinea
