Hi Rita, My DH and I both love daffodils. In the pictures above, the ones with the dark orange centers, are they "Maria". How big are these, they look like minis to me. I like the white ones with yellow centers. I had the white ones, but I've lost all but about 2.

Did you buy yours locally??/ I really need to get some more and I'd like to get these. I have probably 2 or 300 minis but they are solid yellow and usually bloom really early. I love them, but I need to divide them so much.
Another ,to do list member. I'm in the hundreds of things to do now, Oh well, it's not going anywhere!!!

Your photos are beautiful as always. I enjoy them so much. Thanks for taking the time. When I uploaded mine yesterday, it took about 2-3 minutes apiece to load. I have broadband, I wonder how long dial up would take???

Blessings to all, Mona

I have hardly any doubles as they only way I buy them is if they are included in a mix. Otherwise I don''t buy them as they just lean and flop down to lay on the ground being so heavy. I also figgured out that I don't much like split corona daffs either when I bought some and planted them here. They are still here but I am not about to buy any more. Unless of course I get them in a mix again.

I am planning to buy at least two of the mixes at Scheepers this fall. I already have the long trumpet mix (200 of that) and I plan to get the All White MIx and the Rinus Rim Mix. 100 of each. Then I haven't decided for sure if I should also get the Fragrant Mix or the Gold Medal Mix. I so love that Long Trumpet Mix that I am a big fan of Scheepers mixes. I have their Early Tulop mix also already and plan to get more.

Mona, I did buy the ones over by the garage locally, They were some sort of mixes I got in Home Depot. Then the yellow daffs by the serviceberries I also bought locally. Those are just plain all the same yellow.

The Maria ones do have the really nice dark orange centers. Maria is a Cyclamineus Narcissi with the back swept petals and the nodding flowers. They are not minis but they are on the smaller size compaired to the common daffs around here. I bought the Maria daffs at Brent and Beckies. I have never seen them anywere else.

I have bought many at Scheepers also and like Scheepers as they come mail order at the right time to plant (as do the bulbs from Brent and Beckies).

I have daffs in mixes in certain areas and in other areas I have a batch of all the same. Haven't done pictures of those yet as they are not blooming except for the Maria and the Early Sensation. Still lots more daffs to come and I am already plotting what daffs I will buy to plant this fall. Plan to order from Scheepers.

I had to work on making the daylily beds for years and then after I started the beds and even while I was making new ones I would be moving daylilies around like crazy each spring and fall. Finially got the worst of the moving done and that is when I got truly serious about adding the spring bulbs.

One of my biggest projects was the left hand side of the front yard. I had the daylilies in two rows along the stacked stone wall. Then I had those belgium block mini terraces put in which means I could finially do the bulbs. So I did. 200 of Scheepers Long Trumpet mix daffs went in along the two belgium block mini terraces and 200 of Scheepers early tulip mix went in back of the two daylily rows which of course made them in front of the daffs.

I really like putting daffs and tulips around the daylies as it gives me the early spring color which is another bloom season. Then they die back and dissapear so they don't bother the daylilies at all. I am really surprised that more people have not planned their daylily beds this way.

Stephanie, look at Brent and Beckies. That is were I got those really orange trumpet MARIA daffs.

I always loved spring but early spring used to be no color in my garden. Wow, what a difference the daffodil blooms have made for me. Lots of happy faces in the early garden beds.

While the daylilies slumber in the backyard plateau bed the daffs in back of them are really putting on a show.

Daffs in front of the serviceberry shrubs give this area a woodsey feel. There are two more rows in front of the ones you see that are just short folliage yet. I put the ones coming in last fall. Then there are daylilies in front of all the daffs.

The terraces garden is just waking up. This garden is simply stunning during bloom season. It has daylilies, daffs, sedum, humingbird mints, catmints, lilies, tall bearded iris and annuals. I intend to add more bulbs this fall to give it more early spring pazazz.

Well, I amused myself this morning by ordering a complete tray of FRUIT PUNCH Poppies from Graceful Gardens today. They have FREE SHIPPING today only so if you want anything from them today would be a good day to order. I just love the looks of these poppies in their picture and have never seen the FRUIT PUNCH anywhere else. I saw these at Graceful Gardens last year, ordered half a tray and planted them but last year they did not bloom. They did settle in well and grow and are looking robust this spring so I figgure they will bloom. I was going to wait to order more but the free shipping got me to order today.

Oh and if you like Dephs they have the most amazing selection. Plus lots of other truely wonderful plants.

Daffodils blooming along the stacked stone wall in front of shrubs near the front yard pond. The shrubs aren't even leafed out. Once they do leaf out you really can't see the street thru there. There are lilies planted in front of the daffs and then I just stick annuals, usually marigolds in front of everything.
Thumb of 2012-03-21/Newyorkrita/e8a4db

Here is the entire mid backyard. What a difference between now and the summer view. You can see the backyard MARIA daffs along there. This long shot of the large mid bed has lots of flowers later, daffs, tulips, dutch iris, tall bearded iris, lilies, gladiolias, afew perrenials and annuals and of course lots of daylilies.
