Now to the front yard. Two pics of the EARLY SENSATION daffs which are still blooming away. Then three pictures of the daffs in the belgium block mini terraces over on the other side of the front.

That is exactly why the daffs are here. I need the spring color to start off the flower show for the year. And I do so love daffodils.

Thanks! I have been working on those spring bulbs and am now already plotting what bulbs I will buy to plant this fall for even more color next spring.

Geez, I just about drove myself nuts for the past 45 minutes trying to find some Four O'Clock tubers to order on the net. I used to get them real easy from some place that now I can't remember the name of that I bought for the last three years. But whatever it was it doesn't come up for me to find. I finially bought some (only 5) from Brent and Beckies. I am pretty sure the self seeded 4 o'clocks are not going to come up this year due to the place having all the heavy mulch put on last fall. Besides I really like to plant the tubers, they put out whoppers of plants.

Rita, have you ever grown Chionodoxa?

First year blooms -
And they come in a darker shade that would look wonderful with your yellow daffs
And spread/self seed

Oh, no, Cindy...

NOT the dreaded Star of Bethlehem that self seeds everywhere in old homestead gardens!

Can you tell I have been trying to eradicate that? Why? Foliage flops and is on the way out, messy looking just when the flowers are blooming!

Funny story.

I brought a few trays full, home with me from one of the estates I work on. I thought the foliage was crocus!

ECK! thank goodness I hadn't planted it before realizing that it was just what I was trying to get rid of!

BTW, my house is 1865, and estate is turn of the century gardens.

Chionodoxa kind of looks like Scilla, but is more upright and larger. Still under 6 inches in the gardens, but both are pretty.

bb- Look at the bottom picture on page one of this thread. I posted it also on another furum here and a forum member ID it for me as Chionodoxa.

I always enjoy looking at your gardens, Rita. The care you give your gardens certainly
shows up in the photos. Always lush and healthy.

BB, I have vast amounts of the dreaded Star of Bethlehem. We gave up on getting rid of it, and
just mow it off before it seeds. Of course, that doesn't take care of the bulbs. They do want to multiply.

Am interested in Chinodona. I like it, especially the different shades of purple.

Thanks! I really, really love my garden. As soon as the weather turns warm and things get green in the spring I want to be outside in my yard all day. Even in the summer and fall. I enjoy just puttering around doing things here and there. Plus I have to take "tours" of everything at least twice each day just to see what is blooming and to look at everything. Never mind that I had already seen it either the night before or in the morning if it is an afternoon walkaround.

Rita, I remember when you were building all the beds. Enjoyed seeing the progress and planning.
Yep, we do have to take tours. How else to enjoy all the time and effort that goes into gardening.

Shirlee, Star of Bethlehem doesn't do that kind of spreading in my zone. Must like the warmer zones.

Here come another batch of daffodil pictures taken today as it is just a lovely warm spring day.

This first batch are ones I have planted in the backyard in front of my row of Serviceberries. I like the woodsey look of the daffs in front of the shrubs. This past fall, I added two rows in front of these blooming now but those are still small with folliage that is just past breaking ground. I think I will add another row this fall to make it a sea of daffs back there.

I also have been taking pictures of the front yard Maria daffs and today I saw bloom stalks up on some of the back yard Maria daffs.
