Hilarious!

That is hysterical!

Mossy44 said:Another refugee from Houzz here, very happy to find this forum and so many other GW members. I garden in the mountain foothills of western Washington, about an hour NE of Seattle, where rain is our usual weather except for July and August, so it's an uphill battle to grow roses, but worth it. I have a small yard but this year will have over 40 roses, the most I've had at one time, and they are doing great so far. I sometimes think the main purpose of the roses is to photograph them, no one else in this little town or in my family are into roses - they are polite, but you can see their eyes glaze over when I start talking roses, so I don't. But I love taking pictures and usually end up with five to six thousand photos from one season of thirty some roses. They keep me happy all the rest of the year even if it is overkill.
I hope many more Garden Web uses defect from Houzz and show up here, that would just be great.

Trying this quote thing. Anyway to just get part of the post rather than the whole thing? I tried highlighting but that didn't work.

Mossy, welcome! I used to live in the Everett area myself. What a gorgeous house and yard! I know about the pictures and the eyes glossing over all too well!

Yes ...

The quote starts with the word "quote" in brackets [ ]. It ends with the same word in the brackets with a back slash in front of "quote". [/ ]

You can delete any part of the post you are quoting as long as the remaining text starts and ends as stated above.

Hello everyone here, including many of my dear friends from the Houzz Antique Forum. I've been a member of the Garden Web forum for many years and enjoyed it very much and got to know so many wonderful people, but it's been something of a nightmare over there lately, and I look forward to posting here, although I'll still visit Houzz to visit with the people who have not made it over here yet. Change after such a long time is sad and difficult, but I've gotten tired of grinding my teeth over there because of lost posts and other aggravations.

I live not too far from Lisa, but higher up and a little more inland, in a very tough environment for roses (and humans too) of intense solar radiation and what is laughingly known as soil but is really decomposed granite from the huge rock formations in my hilly back yard. At one time I had over 100 roses, most of them old and Austin roses, but I'm now down to 43 roses since many faded away during the drought and increasing temperatures. I look forward to hearing from members here who grow roses in similarly difficult situations. Here are a few pictures from my garden.

The first picture is the tea rose Madame Lambard, the second a polyantha, Aunt Margy's Rose and the third a shot of my front garden.

Sure you will get it.

Click quote for this message.

OK ... in the message box, you will see that the quote material starts with code in brackets. Then there's the content you are quoting. It ends with the code in brackets with a back slash in front of the code.

You can delete anything between the beginning bracketed code and the ending bracketed code.

That way you can quote just part of a message.

When you get done typing your response, you can hit the PREVIEW button. You will see what will appear once you hit the FINISHED button. If you need to make corrections, just drop down to where you typed your message and fix it. You can hit PREVIEW again and you will see your corrected post.

Does this help ?

Yay, Ingrid! I was sure hoping to see you here! I'll probably bounce back and forth a bit too, but today I was totally unable to get into Houzz without getting an "insecure site" notice. My WiFi is down though, so that may be it. I'm using my tiny data plan on my phone right now. Tomorrow afternoon an AT&T tech is coming to fix the problem.
SO glad to see you here, my dear friend! Lisa

zuzu, I wonder if you have the right Ingrid. I don't know what Cubits is. By the way, I was wondering how to post my photograph as an avatar. I looked for instructions but somehow did not find any. I'm sure there are quite a few things that I'll need to learn

Lisa, how could I stay away when so many of you are here? I clicked on this site yesterday but it was already late, and today we had things to do, but I finally made it. When my last post on Houzz disappeared that was the final straw. For all I know it may be sitting in the Kitchen Forum, but who cares any more? I've never seen such a mess , and I wonder how long it will take them to fix it. At any rate, it's so nice to come to a site that does not have the unrelenting desire to sell you something, a place that seems much more "normal" and friendly.

Hi, Ingrid. I'm sorry. I must have confused you with another Ingrid who was a member of our Rose Cubit back in 2010. She also lived in Southern California and used to buy roses from Cliff Orent's EuroDesert site.

Lynn, thank you again for your help. Yes, it does help. I also appreciate Zuzu helping me as well. I am still not seeing the pictures I posted for Candice but I am sure they are out there somewhere! I will have to look for them later as I need to get out in the yard while it is still cool enough to work out there.

Ingrid, so good to see you here. Welcome!

Hello Ingrid glad to see you made it over! I am happy to see so many familiar names, I know change can be hard but I think we will all like it over here. I'm going to go back and forth for awhile too but I'm sure will eventually stay in one spot over here.
This is Boncrow66 btw Smiling

Lisa I hope they get your internet fixed soon and you are up and running again. I would not have been happy with a notice that I had been compromised in some way. Your pics of Felicia and Mel are gorgeous!

Just a thought for you and others that are going back and forth ...

You can invite your friends to join here, with no need to participate, and then send them a t-mail if there is a thread here that they may be interested in.

In other words, at this time they may not want to make a change, but if you see something the may like, just let them know.

When I get some time (haha) I'll start adding some of my photos to the database. Kinda busy right now... and still editing this yr's photos when I have time. Just wanted to mention I occasionally post on the Backyard Chickens Forum, and their format is almost exactly like what you guys have going on here, so it will be easy to get used to. Hope to see more of the GW regulars over here as time goes on. They have changed a few things on there making it a little easier, but I still don't like the changes...

I know there's another Ingrid from Thousand Oaks, that often gets confused with "our" Ingrid. Cliff from Eurodesert Roses also had the two confused when I was at his home in January. (I always take special notice of the name "Ingrid", as it is a very special name to me. It is the name of my dear sister, and I named my one and only beloved daughter, "Ingrid", as well.) Finding out that THIS INGRID (above) lived just a few miles from me, and had the same taste in roses, and is such a lovely person, made the connection all the sweeter! It's not a common name in the US, and I love it, obviously! Ingrid has been invaluable in helping me with my roses. Her conditions are similar, yet harsher to mine. Therefore, anything that thrives in her conditions is a rock solid choice for me, and anything she's tried that struggled a bit is probably fine at my place. She's saved me lots of mistakes, and I've often said it won't be long before we are growing all the same roses! I'm finding that's not quite true, because she has more space for the old Tea Roses that grow very large, while I have a small "track home" yard with limited space. I'm also blessed? with heavy clay soil. In this dry climate it seems to be a blessing, because overwatering isn't an issue in S CA. I'm also at a much lower elevation (570), while she's more than twice that. I get coastal breezes and cooling, while she doesn't get as much. She also has a lot of radiant heat from boulders and such, that I don't. Let me tell you though. Her place is beyond beautiful, no matter how challenging the conditions are. Her roses don't compete with the glorious landscape around her, but add to it and blend in. It a picture perfect paradise that's hot as hades in the summer and fall. It's magical, and she takes wonderful photographs. I know THIS Ingrid is going to be a wonderful addition to Garden.org, along with the increasing numbers of "refugees" coming over here.
I hope I didn't embarrass you, Ingrid. That was definitely not my intention. I'm just so happy to see my "extra special" people here! I'm working on getting some more over here, too.
I'm also going to work on adding pictures to the database. I added just 3 yesterday, but my WiFi is down and I'm currently waiting on the technician to show up to repair it. Then, I'll feel free to upload all the photos I want, without worrying about "overages" on my tiny data plan from Verizon. The few I did yesterday went smoothly, and I enjoyed adding pictures to rose entries that had no previous pictures. It made me feel like I was really contributing something helpful, although I'm not the greatest photographer. I do have some really "good ones", and when my internet is restored, I look forward to adding lots more photos.
Anyway, enough gushing. I'm not sure how "personal" this place gets, and I've been starved for internet contact for 36 hours now. Grumbling I hope it's an easy fix, and not one I'm responsible paying for. Crossing Fingers! We shall soon find out! Lisa

Gushing is good! We get very "personal" here, occasionally sharing pictures of our cats, dogs, frogs, and chickens as well as our roses.

Hi,
another Houzz refugee. Was ZW. I just started using the site only a year or so ago, although I was a longtime lurker. Lol.
I thought all the headache was normal for that site and me just getting used to it. Photo limits and restrictions then deleted posts, missing/out of order pictures. Which really bothered me because I used the site for a long time to figure out what roses I liked before I bought them. HMF Is great if you wanna check an exact rose but to browse and compare roses Houzz was unbeatable. I relied on those pictures matching descriptions of the right rose until I was able to discern them for myself.
I'm happy to hear the love of pictures of roses here. Can't wait to really explore. (Going to try to post pictureshere )

Edit:look at that. So easy to post a photo. And to edit. Love it!
