Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

How big do they get? Ursula has one she posts on orchids when in bloom but I can't remember how tall it was. I like Happy Pink but I would need some basics to grow it.

I have a good few pages of how to care for them and if anyone would like it send me your email Its a word doc and 4 pages so don't want to try to post here . here is a quick how to

1 Adenium Obesum, also known as Desert Rose, is native to Eastern Africa and Northern Arabia.
2 in the ground in very warm climates can grow 6-12 ft! BUT DON'T THINK ANY OF US WILL HAVE IN THE GROUND!
3 in pots usualy very old (20 yrs) 3 ft most will have a squat plant. mine 6 yo i had outside in 5 gal pot was 2 ft tall 18 in round
4 likes full sun (least 6 hr) if in very hot loc 95deg and up part shade
5 very well draining soil (2/3 bark soiless mix) 1/3 perlite
6 in growing season water very well then wait till almost dry but not dusty dry!
7 most go threw dormant season in cooler shorter days.
8 can be grown in almost any type container
9 there prized for there blooms AND there caudex ( the trunk)
10 can be grown from seed and grafted If grown from seed they can very in variety.

thats the quick guide to growing most people kill them by over-watering and the rot. I find as long as you dont let them get bone dry and kill the feeder roots they do best with a little neglect
email me for the whole document

I should know all the dates and prices in the next 2 days ill post as soon as I get done fighting over the prices. I can tell you the purple is VERY new and rare will take at least 60 days to get after the order is placed. the quantity is very limited at this time. The older ones are not rare and much easier to get.

They are in the ground anywhere in South Florida. Let me see if I can find the picture of a friend's one in the Florida Keys.
And I can't..... but trust me, it has been in the ground for years and reaches up to my waist. a stunning specimen. I will keep looking and post it if I find it.
Mike, I will be interested in a couple of Adeniums.

I used to live in Phoenix. One year at the Desert Botanical Gardens they auctioned one off that was over 5' tall with almost as big of a spread. It was in full bloom and stunning. I'll never forget it... sniff...

You can grow them in pots and bring them in for winter and just hold back on watering till spring.
