So what do you do now? Does the rosette die? and you plant the stem? Forgive this newbie what may be a dumb question.

All those little offsets will send roots down into the ground. The rosette that bloomed has died in the process of supporting the flowers and seed making.
Their life cycle is is a relative short one, 2 or 3 years, sometimes more. Once the rosette blooms she dies. But hopefully she has left offspring in the way of offsets, that will carry on her line.

for everything there is a season. a time to live, a time to bloom and a time to die.

To leave a generation behind is the legacy of these wonderful plants.

Marilyn, there are no dumb questions. We all had to learn somehow! I think their short life span is actually part of the beauty of these plants. You can see the entire process in just a few years and they multiply so fast. Almost seems like they live in fast forward.
