I am making some tin can planters... painting the cans periwinkle and I think I'm going to try morning glories in them. Collecting cans from work, I have 4 so far, and I think I want to do 7 of them. Probably going to put them on my fence.

I've got a big coffee can that my sis gave to me. I am contemplating doing a bird house out of it. But I'm nervous about the entrance hole. I'll have to figure out some way to make sure the little birds don't cut themselves on it! Thinking about lining it with polymer clay or something like that. Any ideas?

Brenda, can't wait to see!

Sally, clay would be good or a rubber ring you get at ACE hardware. Then cut the hole to that size and glue to ring so it doesn't slip off.

Get two rubber rings, glue one inside and one outside just to be sure.

Washers. Isn't that what those rubber rings are called?
Took me this long to remember that word.
It better be the right word, too. Smiling

O'rings are good for sealing water out of electrical motors, for instance a trolling motor, in fishing reels, in coffee pots. They fit down on whatever you want then you can put something else on top to seal. Car engines use a lot of them. Maybe some of you remember when the old cars would go down the road with the smoke coming out of the exhaust. We would say it needs a ring job. Oil is leaking onto the motor and they need to replace the rings.
