That, and the wind just started in here, again. I'll second that, Brrr!

This crazy tulip just keeps getting bigger and bigger. My hand is cupping the bloom, and you can barely see it anymore!

These yellow blooms are super-sized as well; easily 5" high, by 4" across. I have no idea what they are, just returns from the last three years.
Thumb of 2012-04-10/chelle/33b1af

Do you suppose they bloom bigger the longer they're left in the ground, or is it just because of the type of tulip or weather conditions this year?

That red one is huge, is that the peony tulip, because I was going to order some. Love the yellow also and sure, if their roots get bigger and bigger then they get bigger. I wonder if they multiply like the daffs. I only have mine in pots because of this crazy weather.

It is the same peony tulip. 'Miranda'. Lovely name for this flower. Big Grin

I've never dug one up to check for offsets; maybe I should this year.

Views of the southside rose garden and also you can see the shrub border along the south property line. When it is leafed out compleatly, it hides my neighbors driveway so that you can't even see it.

Beautiful Rita.
The Rhodo color across from the tulips just makes you want to be there! Hurray!

I bought my small leafed rhodos at Home Depot of all places. In fact I have gotten many of my garden shubs and plants at Home Depot. Ours has a very large (and busy) garden section.

We got ours from much the same place, but our soil (and well water) isn't to its liking. Additives like Hollytone will keep the plant alive, but it'll probably never be outstanding. Cute, but not big. Smiling

From what I've read, the east coast typically has a higher percentage of naturally acid soil than what we have here. Plus, it's in an area that has drainage issues.

Would coffee grounds help the rhodies?
They keep the blue hydrangea I bought from turning to the *dreaded* pink version.

Yes; and thanks for the reminder. Thumbs up
I bought a huge can of really inexpensive coffee for the acid-lovers here. Once the soil warms they'll all get another dose or three. Big Grin

I do. Right out of the can, with a couple of buckets of water to get things percolating. Big Grin
This one bloomed pretty nicely for the first time last year, after using the coffee. The years before, it was alive, but that's about it.
