Gee...Fire Ants would be the winner so far with the most unhappy faces! LOL. Hurray!

I have creeping charlie in the back yard, it is the only thing green in the winter so I cannot complain too much. That and the clover is my winter ground cover. Maybe I am just use to it, been seeing it my whole life and just pull it up if it gets into the bed, seems to be easy to pull up.

I ran across them a few times, but only in the yard. I disturbed their colony when I was gardening. I sprayed the whole area with bug spray, waited 15 minutes and got out the hose and flushed everything out. Presto they were gone all three times. If you don't flush them out they could come back. I never got near them though and never got bit, thankfully.
The thing that scares me is that they can get immune to the pesticides so the best thing would be Food-Grade Diatomaceous Earth. Just be sure not to inhale it. This is not a pesticide and they will NOT get immune to it.

I also read that pouring boiling water over the ant hill will kill them, seems like it should work, cook the little buggers. nodding I don't know where the hill is here, it is outside my yard on a steep hillside. Shrug!

Sounds like you need a good bait. I used Terro one time and It attracted and killed ants from 5 miles away. Lol. You can make your own with borax and sugar and put it out for them to eat, it will eradicate all of them. Here are some other tips for organic ant control. Smiling

I tried that the borax and sugar, and I bought the ant traps, I have the Diatomaceous Earth, I tried a liquid that they were supposed to take back to the nest, nothing has worked so far. Glare

Wow! What a long thread.

Here's what I'd love to get rid of.

Snails
Slugs
Crab grass

The Butterfly bush I planted on purpose. It self sows everywhere. Regardless of how much the butterflies and hummers love it, I'm going to get it out of my garden this year or else! Angry

Bamboo (yes the invasive kind) It was here when we moved in 13 years ago and we've been battling it ever sense. About the time we think we're getting the upper hand it pops up somewhere else. I think the bamboo might have been the previous owners sole reason for moving. I have heard that moving is the only way to get rid of it. Smiling

@Joy .........

I read somewhere ... who knows where Shrug! ... that if you keep cutting the shoots as soon as they pop up and never allow the plants to have any photosynthesis, you will eventually kill the dang thing. Do I believe it ? I've never had a bamboo problem, so, of course, I've never had a chance to prove that it doesn't work or that it does work.

Smiles,

Lyn

Thanks Lyn. I think that's probably true. We've been able to stop some of it that way. Gotta be persistent and can't let up.

Joy, most of the newer cultivars are sterile. Your conditions are perfect for the seedlings but you can still have one for your butterflies. I have several Miss Molly's and a Black Knight which is not listed as sterile but I never have seen any seedlings. If you prune it hard in February it will not get too big. My last one was 9 feet tall and wide, it had to go. I got a new one after I learned how to keep them under control. LOL.
I love Black Knight because more butterflies go to it than anything else I have ever had. I am planting a lot of milkweed around it this year.

I always WANTED my Black Knight to seed but it never did. Mostly I get crosses of that and the White Profusion I also have - lavendar or pink blossoms.
