I've got four plants with scapes. Hurray! ROB COBB has a scape that's about 12" tall already. SAVANNAH KNOCKOUT has a short proliferation with one bud at the top. Orangman has a scape and so does Lemon lily. Those two are always early, but seem to be even earlier this year. I checked my records, and Orangeman usually gets it's first bloom mid to late May and Lemon lily's first blooms are usually in early June. Peak bloom here is mid July, but this year everything started growing early, so I'm thinking peak bloom may be earlier as well?

I've have to check my Rob Cobb. Never noticed that it was early before.

Alas, the one daylily that has eluded me is H. flava (lilioasphodelus - its new name)

And the odd thing is, it is the daylily that made me fall in love with daylilies! I taught piano and held June recitals. One year I picked the fragrant yellow one in my uncle's yard for a bouquet. That did it! A memory for a lifetime.

I have ordered it a couple of times, but it has never been the right one. A neighbor up the street offered me some of hers, but never followed through. I really should chase it down again!

I got Lemon Lily a couple of years ago but I don't think it is Lemon Lily. Mine is more gold in color. I believe I got Middendorf because it blooms really early. I have scapes on it now and it should be in bloom by the first of May.

First blooms should have been on the one mentioned above. Well, it actually did have buds but very deformed flowers, it being back in the 50s and having been divided and replanted when I posted.

Today the first real flower - well, just a little yellow varmint or possibly dumortieri or middendorfii. I get them mixed up.

Looks like the color of Stella but more trumpet shaped.

Nothing to write home about but IT IS a daylily bloom! And it is going to be in the 60s maybe 70 today after several days of rain.

Gotta go grub out a garden locally and 5 yds compost coming. Between 3 of us I hope the grubbing, edging and 2 yds compost will be done. And the sun is out! Going to be a good morning!

I have one also that I think is Middendorfii. It is a gold color and always blooms real early here.

Orangeman is blooming here now, it started on the 14th. It's an extra early. I have more and more scapes everyday. Last year everything was later than usual. This year every thing seem to be early. Making up for lost time, I guess.

Hurray! Huray for scapes. I have scapes here myself. And it is very early for that here but these are extra early and early bloomers. I have scapes on SARATOGA SPRINGTIME, FOREVER STELLA, VERNAL TU-TONE, LUANNA and VT FLAT GOLD.

Interesting thread.
This is a new plant and I was concerned at the first bloom, because it did not have the distinctive watermark, but then this later bloom did. Hurray!

The daylily plants here are huge mounds of green leaves also. Has to be all the rain we have had in the past few weeks.

Here is a pic of the lily sold to me as lemon lily, which I do not think it is.

Anyone else virtually scapeless?. Other than 7 or 8 prebloom scapes I have none in zone 7A. Last year I had 32 in bloom at this time.

No scapes here, not even on Stella. Nada. That is just as well, my Iris are putting on a show, and I would prefer a gradual change over from iris to daylilies. Besides, I planted a bunch of lates, and I don't want them blooming in July!~Jan

Jan - what zone are you? It really seems odd that some in 5b and 6a have blooms.and I have really been worrying alot that something is wrong this year. The dormants started coming up mid February because of spring like weather.

I looked yesterday. No scapes in sight.

Happened to look today at one clump, saw a scape. Started looking and scapes on 8-10 plants! I know they were not there yesterday!
