Sorry about your loss, Kathy, but you are still putting on a great show!

Down here, Stanhopea wardii is back with a third round of blooms. Better yet, it looks like there will be a round four.

I've had Phal Salu Rose X P. Golden Sun for a long time and it is huge. It's nothing special but still pretty and a consistent bloomer.

That Stanhopea is just amazing, Jim!! Wow. Spent the whole last couple of hours cleaning up the cymbidiums-trimming sunburnt leaves and grooming the pseudobulbs. (these burned under the shade cloth this summer, can we talk intense sun!) I think something may be going on with my lowianum-either new leaves or spikes. Time will tell. I've had it a few years and never seen the flowers. Meanwhile inside, Epc. Siam Jade is opening.

Jim, the Stanhopea is great!! Lovey dubby Must be contagious, mine is spiking again too.

Kathy, I have never left my Schomburgkia outside until frost. I know they can take cool temperatures, but I don't know if the spikes can. But, I would place it outside ( at least at daytime?) as long as you can.
Btw I used to flower my V. David Gardner regularly inside before greenhouse days - with a bright growlight clamped above it....

All of my cyms are under oak trees and get dapple sun at best. I think full Florida sun would fry them to a crisp. I know it does me. Smiling

New England is not a sunny place!! The last 2 years we had thunderstorms and sometimes hail 2-3 times a day for weeks!! I had the shade cloth off of the cyms all summer and was using my tarp like mad. Two years ago I lost a ton of orchids to rot because of the amount of rain! But this year is very dry and I didn't dare take off the shade cloth and they still burned!! What a difference a year can make.

Yum!
My "secret" is full sun all summer (acclimate slowly) and a long cool fall (protected from frosty nights) and a 50 degree winter inside. Not that all 7 have bloom! Only one so far! Also, the one blooming is in a mix of sphag (very little), coco chunks, perlite, and lava rock. Most are in pumice. I spray every other day to keep the medium damp.

BTW, downstairs is full of scent now from the ensifolium. Well worth the years of waiting! Chilly outside, going to deep water soon. I decided to wait and water today since low temps are up tonight. I really want to avoid fall rot!

You really have a way with those paphs, Todd. Just beautiful!

The Brassavola David Sander now has 4 blooms open. It doesn't get better than this.

Jim

I'm ignoring my 16 paphs. Maybe they will surprise me. They LOOK happy. I guess I'm a phrag girl. Which is fine! We can't grow everything well even if we try...

Oh, Jim. I adore that plant!!!

Jim , is it growing in an oak barrel,or just appearing to be attached to one?
It's beautiful!

It came mounted on a 1X4 inch ceder board which I hung on the side of the barrel containing my bottle palm. The roots quickly grew about half way around the barrel. That means I can't bring it in during the cold so I just throw a towel over it. It has worked so far. The long term problem is that that barrel is beginning to rot. The orchid then becomes a secondary problem to the repotting of that big palm. I'm still thinking that one through.
