Buds on this white catt look like my C. intermedia buds.

Lost the tag on this! Looks like a nobile den but the leaves are fuller. I guess I'll know soon....

Kathy,
Where on the dendrobian cane does the spike appear?
During the last storm, I brought all my plants inside and set them on the sunporch floor and my
knuckleheaded dogs tail broke the top of den. 'Bobby Messina' off Grumbling
There were 8 leaves ( I think) and it broke in half. Angry
Is there any hope for a spike on this poor plant?

The top half probably won't grow roots (you can try putting it lying on a bed of wet sphagnum and see if roots grow) but if it's determined to spike it may spike down on the lower half.

Is this a spike or a root on my phal? It's growing between two leaves and you can see where I cut the old spike down.Thumb of 2010-10-03/stilldew/824786

Susan, that looks like a root to me, if it's a spike, it has some 3d detail and is usually very solid light green. Similar to Kathy's picture above of
the noid den. even when they are just visible to the naked eye there is usually some detail.

Susan,
I found this phal. spike-ette yesterday morning, you can see how there's some detail here
that you don't see on a root-let.
