I had this NOID Cat. mounted on a tree in the front yard. Even though it held well through winter, the host's leaves have not fully returned as of yet, exposing this spiking Cat to extreme full sun. I detached it and have it in a wooden basket. A few weeks ago one of two sheaths began to fill. The other sheath was brown and dried. Not thinking anything would come of it. This Cat. came from an "Orchid In A Bag" no tag curtesy of a large hardware store.

Isn't that great!!? Maybe we can ID it. I like how long and slender the buds are and they look like there might be red or purple developing. Can you show the whole plant?

Could be a Laelia purpurata type or a Cattleya intermedia (naw, it would have a 'skirt' sticking out of the tip)....we will see.

I am terrible identifying plants by the sheer look of it. Heh, I am terrible even if I see the blooms, unless it is something I have/or have killed. Should be fun when it blooms! Thumbs up

Lindsey, You're going to have a great looking flower on that paph. I had one for about 4-5 years and it always had the neatest looking bloom. It lasts a long time also. Almost too long, if that's possible.

Well thank you Bill! I am new to Paphs...I've had these for almost a year and they have done absolutely nothing, they have always looked healthy, they just stopped growing and went into suspended animation. So I am , as you can imagine beside myself with excitement!

That's so great.

I had a small disappointment this weekend. The first bud on my Phrag besseae var flavum fell off. Must have been the long trip from Seattle. But the second bud seems okay. Here's hoping!

Lindsey, the Fire Dance 'Patricia' looks promising! Thumbs up
Your Bletilla is way ahead of mine!
Good looking Paph.
Kathy, the next bud will be fine. You know, those plants from Ooi leng sun in spike- I am afraid the long trip proved to be too long for some of the ones bought in spike. The plants are ok, the spikes are shriveling. Not surprising. At least I know that I bought blooming size plants.
