Watching the spike grow is just as exciting as the flowers, if not more so Big Grin Its the anticipation of something wonderful to come! And, I like how you said it; " it means plant happiness"! Nothing like knowing your plant is healthy and happy! Question though, what is a DBF?

Not a bloom, but I'm anticipating my Thunia, it should be sprouting out any time now! It hasn't had a drop of water since November....

Thanks Ursula! I'm about 100% that mine is Purple Gem, it just didn't say the name on the label when I bought it. Just 'Collectors Serise' Rolling my eyes.

Its funny though, I was looking at pictures of 'White Gem' and thought how pretty it was and how much I'd like one.......then when I saw 'Purple Gem' I realized its the one I already have Hilarious!

I think the darker growth has more potential to be a spike than the light green one. That cym looks like my Cym. Purple Temple. (Now I DECIDED it was Purple Temple but I could be wrong.) In any case, it's probably an ensifolium x.Thumb of 2011-03-29/boojum/ebedb8

OMG!
first bud on a Paph. and now a potential spike on Cym? Where's the smelling salts..I'm feeling woooozy!
I threw them all outside after my last whiney post, so they've been enjoying the 30 degree nights I guess.
Culturally , should I do anything different? Feed them, continue ignoring them, move them back to the unheated
sunroom?

I feed them every 3 weeks. Keep them real cool to get them to spike for about 2 months, then I keep them cool (I have them at 50 degrees with not enough light-they would like more) all winter when they bloom. Your unheated sunroom sounds fine. Or keep them outside now...
