I have a clump of Encyclias which sports three different plants. I bought is as Encyclia tampensis 'Chocolate'. (from David Walker) Hmmm, the Encyclia tampensis smells sweetly of Honey and the other two ( most likely) hybrids with plicata and phoenicea smell very nicely of Chocolate. ( plant picture to follow another day) I am really enjoying this one!

Good eye Carol! I went to "room genealogy" to look up the parentage of the Copper Queen.
I enjoy this japanese website, there is so much information there, so please follow me if you like:
here is the first page
http://www.orchid.or.jp/orchid...
next, clicking on Blc Toshie Aoki
http://www.orchid.or.jp/orchid...
it still looks straight forwards, but wait, click on the Blc Faye Miyamoto
http://www.orchid.or.jp/orchid...
and going back to the Blc Toshie Aoki page and clicking on the other parent, Blc Waianae Flare
http://www.orchid.or.jp/orchid...

Is this complex or what?

If you feel like browsing around, here is the full page. If you look closely, the familiar orchid names pop out, just ignore the gibberish.

(Clicking around on home links opens a few more interesting doors to different rooms.)

An educated guess. I've got C.dowiana coming from Odom's this week, so I've been trying to find info on it. This article is the best I could find, so far. http://www.chadwickorchids.com...

Returned from cruise to Bermuda just over a week ago and am just starting to get caught with outside chores. It is not a good time to leave when you have such a short season and all the poor weather we have had this year. Even to catch up on all the wonderful posting here takes some time and I see we have some new Posters as well, wonderful.

Bermuda was beautiful as usual, but the vegetation was showing signs of stress from the drought they are experiencing. The palm trees were not anywhere near as well manicured as Jim's. Went to the Botanical Garden which were told was open, but when we got there only the grounds were open and the buildings locked. Sad From what I could see inside the buildings, it looked more like things were existing more than being well maintained.

My pot grown Bletilla striata which was blooming just before I left at the beginning of the month. The blooms on the plants with the variegated leaves are a fair bit deeper in color. The reside in my cold room for the winter.

Brassia Rex 'Okika', also started blooming just before I left. It measures 14 inches from tip of dorsal sepals to tip of lateral sepal.

Ken, I love the Bletilla and the Brassia. Too bad about the drought in Bermuda.

I found Blc Keowee 'Newberry' blooming out in the bushes. It has always been a favorite of mine.

So lovely Jim.
Welcome home Ken! I've never been to Bermuda but I went to Jamaica when I was 17 and they had a drought. I thought they were kidding because there was so much growth everywhere.
Interesting about the variegated bletilla being darker in flower color. What is your cold room's minimum temp?

Ken, very nice Bletillas and I like the Brassia.

Jim, pretty little skirt on the 'Newberry'.
