Better to have it checked by a dermatologist if possible. The first Basal Cell Carcinoma I had...3 different primary care doctors told me it didn't look like anything to worry about. Medical schools really don't prepare them very well for things like that usually. After the 3rd doctor, I referred myself to a dermatologist, who diagnosed it on the first visit and removed it.

My dermatologist likes to cut first and ask questions later. I have an ugly scar on my arm to prove it.

We are fortunate here to have one of the best dermatologists in the country in our area. And our local doctor is very good about making referrals if he's not sure or if we're concerned. Good guy. Thumbs up

Ha! Whenever in doubt, do a biopsy! That's my dermatologist's motto...at least, that's what I THINK it is!

Yep, that's what happened. I noticed a little blood spot. And after he cut a chunk out of my arm and sent it off, there was/is still a little spot, next to a stitched up gash on my arm. Just a broken blood vessel.

Sandi, perhaps you might look around for another dermatologist. Although the first dermatologist I had was supposed to be one of the best around, I felt that he missed the basal cell on my ear due to his being so rushed. I changed dermatologists, and have been very satified with the new one.

I plan to do that. There's a new office out near us that some have recommended.

I did find a new dermatologist and she checked my ear. Said it was nothing to worry about. Took a little bump off the side of my nose. It was benign.
I just noticed when this thread started. I had been putting off finding a new doctor. The responses pushed me to see someone. I hope reviving the thread nudges someone else to get anything suspicious checked out.

I agree, am bumping this thread because it's so important. We always were in the sun, diving, boating, fishing, gardening, playing tennis, etc. My husband has had Melanoma twice, and I've had basal and squamous cell carcinomas. We go every 6 months, and it may end up every 3 months because we have so many things for them to take care of.
