I love, love the blue Lc George Baldwin X C Trithena!! What a gorgeous blooms, color and shape!
Those Psychopsis do have a sense of humor, don't they!! Yak yak yak!!
Interesting peloric 'Flare' too.
Nice show, Jim!! I am enjoying it!
Ok. We dropped off 13 large Golden Gouramis at the store ( they went into a nice size tank all to themselves with the bubblers almost shut off. They should be happy and will most likely start breeding.... Ca. 3 dozens large Paradise Fish are now in the pond. It seems the space under most of the Waterlily leaves is now heavily defended each by a single fish peeking out from under them. Klaus added a nice rack on top of the pond, so I could easily place Deer netting over the whole thing AND hang small Orchids over the water.... I like it a lot!
The Greenhouse is now empty!! Whew!! Everything is outside either in the cage or on the deck or in the case of C&S also on the front steps and in front of the house. I did a lot of repotting and treated the whole Orchid population with Bayers Rose and Flower care. So far so good!!
Next - wash out all trays and scrub the greenhouse. And in the meanwhile the weeds in the Garden grew again....
Good for you, Ursula. I have some repotting to do as well. I have a lot of new roots on the Vandas but no spikes. I think the Aluminet is helping control the temps and that is a good thing. Meanwhile, my weeds are growing ever larger. On Wednesday, I'm having some guys dig up spots in the yard that have been invaded by wild Bermuda grass and resod. It just never ends. It's too hot and humid for me to do much yard work.

I'll second that, Jim. Beautiful show all around. I can't wait for my Green Hornet to grow up to be like yours!
Love the elegant flowers on those Brassavolas. My David Sander has two new spikes, hoping one of them will eventually flower . .. I also have Big Jim (which you really should have!) and Yellow Bird making spikes. Summer's an exciting time for orchid growing.

I may have figured out the mystery with my Bc. Hawaiian Leopard 'Mei-Ling'...
apparently I was so smitten with Jim's plant that it went to the top of my wish list...twice!
I have 2 plants, one from Marble Branch and one from Kawamoto Orchids. This plant
in bloom is from MB the one from Kawamoto is in bud...it will be interesting to compare the 2!
MB has it labled as Bc....Kawamoto has it labeled as Blc.
Elaine, I have to gently correct you! It is always an exciting time for Orchid growing! In a few years from now you might always/year around have something in bloom, which makes it truly fun!
Lindsey, I may have told you this once before, but there is a product that will kill invasive grasses in your flower beds without harming your plants. You can buy it in HD or Lowes as Ortho Grass-B-Gon and it comes ready to use. The active ingredient is 0.48% Fluazifop-P-Butyl. You may want to opt to buy the active ingredient and mix it yourself. It is a little pricy but it will last a long time as you only use a tablespoon per gallon. My problem is the Bermuda grass has invaded my St Augustine grass so I have to kill both and start over. Many folks would just let it go but I'm the guy who gives the lawn presentation at the libraries and I have to maintain some credibility.

Ursula, I sure do agree. But I'm still just beginning my collection, and as you say, I haven't had the joy of something blooming all year 'round. Since my collection has gone from about a dozen in January to over 40 now, I think I have a chance of a succession of blooms. Still I watch posts from people like you and Jim and Lindsay to see what blooms at each time of year.
Jim! Don't re-sod, make bigger flower beds! For the cost of new sod, you can probably buy some new palms that you don't have yet? Or another fruit tree?
I'm usually glad that most of my victims - ah, students - at my 'Alternatives to Turf' talk won't ever come and see my yard! I'm about ready to try some 'Grass -B-Gon' to get rid of the grass in my groundcover areas. Ain't it a sad truth that grass will grow like crazy everywhere you don't want it, but try to grow it in a lawn, you have to coddle and coax it. Fertilizer, fungicide, insecticide, mowing, trimming, aeration . . . arg! Every darn thing we do to grow lawns is expensive, work intensive and bad for the environment. Oo, sorry! I shouldn't get started like that.

I have looked and looked for grass be gone...I've even talked to the reps from Scotts...it's not
a common product here..maybe because everyone grows Bermuda Grass?
Elaine, you better listen to Ursula...she knows what's she's talking about!
When it comes to a full season of flowers, there are some plants that bloom on every new growth
so you'll have a spike or more several times a year. There's some plants that bloom just once a year
and there's lots in my collection that never bloom at all!
Carol, this one is for you, Nageliella purpurea. I moved it to the cage yesterday and I must have taken a dozen pictures, I simply don't get a good "whole pic".
But here it is! I was amazed, some of those old dried up spikes from last Summer are blooming again too!!

What a pretty little plant, Ursula! I love the patterned leaves. To me that's the only down side of growing orchids - when they aren't in bloom some are not all that pretty.
As a result, I persist in trying to grow spotty Paphs despite Jim's dire predictions and past experience. They do have such pretty leaves.

What problems do you have with growing Paphs Elaine, they look great, maybe a little low in the moss(i'd be scared to rot there crowns, i don't use moss though). My number one problem is it seems to hot here in summer for them and they get all spotty but come good again when it cools off.
