I have a first bloom on a plant bought several years ago.
This is Anguloa Dubia or Anguloa x dubia, a natural hybrid of uniflora x clowesii.
I bought it then knowing it needs cool to intermediate conditions, which I chose to ignore. ( I do bloom Anguloa virginalis regularly, in bud now) One bloom only, but I am happy.
Buds emerge with the new leafy growth.

Another attempt of getting my hand on an Asctm miniatum - it is probably garayi and still pretty.

And I really like the beautiful and huge flat blooms on my Vanda David Gardner, so I just have to post a couple more pics.

I've been wanting it for years but haven't found it anywhere. Does it grow like a Lycaste?

Cool flower on that Anguloa Dubia. The part about cool conditions will keep it away from here.
What's the matter with the Phrag? I think it is super. That's another one that won't be growing here any time soon.
Love the Vanda. Great color.

Lindsey, mine looks like the first picture. It appears to have measles instead of freckles this year. Still pretty but strange.

My Gongora smaug has dropped another rope with tiny pterodactyls clinging to it.

I may take the Grammatophylum, the Miltassia and the digbyana to be judged on Tuesday if they hold their blooms.

Jim, and so you should. Especially the digbyana is awesome, I don't think I ever saw one with so many blooms at the same time. Lovey dubby The Miltassia blooms are striking. And I am smitten with the Gongora. I really need to get one like that.

Lindsey, regarding the strange blooms. Could that be caused by thrips?

Kathy, yes, I grow both Anguloas as I would grow my Lycaste. Actually they are all sitting on my lower shelf next to each other. The large leaves probably keep some of the water away from the pots as I water from the top down. I always think that helps them do go dormant in Winter. (Lycaste consobrina is budding right now)

Lovey dubby I sigh every time I view this forum. Y'all are such great Orchid growers ... so many beautiful blooms! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

I moved almost six months ago and my orchids and other plants have been sulking, taking their time acclimating to their new surroundings. One big negative is that I've been watering with city water and they are used to well water. Some things don't seem at all bothered by the city water while others aren't happy at all but I'm hoping at some point in the near future my husband will fix it so that I can have the deck hose coming from the well.

We were on vacation last week in the mountains of North Georgia and got home yesterday. I went out this morning to water plants on the deck and found an orchid in bloom. This is one the squirrels had torn apart a few years ago and the label went missing. I mounted it on wood last fall and it seems to be happier. I went through my list and I'm not certain but I think this is

Thanks everyone!

Jim: LOL, the tree rats (squirrel's) are cute to watch with their playful antics but I sure wish they'd stay out of my yard ... they can really do major damage. Sad

I was a bit too quick to post my Anguloa Dubia as the bloom opened up more as it matured. The lip inside this "Tulip" is on a hinge and it flips/wiggles up and down, really neat. In my pictures here the lip is in the down-position.
The color intensified a lot more, especially on the inside and there is a nice clean spearminty fragrance about it.

I had picked up the Trichopilia hennisiana in June 2011 from Andy. Some buds aborted, but most made it. (I may have moved it too early.) Another cool grower!
