Thanks!
Jim, what a wonderful show!! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby I love them all, but the beautiful blue Lc George Baldwin X C Trithena really catches my attention. Gorgeous Vandal!
Btw my Epc. Rene Marques produced more blooms on the old finished spike, it is a good idea not to cut that one too early.

That Salmon burger sounds delicious.

Sorry to post one that's not in bloom here, Could anybody give me a hint to get my Enc. Green Hornet back to blooming? Jim says his blooms all the time, but mine has been on vacation for a while.

It's healthy, and growing new pb's. More light maybe?

Thanks Elaine

That plant looks very happy, Elaine. You can try more light but do it slowly and keep a eye on it.

Thanks, Jim. I have to move it anyway as I am going to Salt Lake for a week to visit my kids. DH is staying home but won't look at the garden or orchids while I'm gone . . .

So I will ease it into a new situation this week, and hopefully when I get home it will have a spike.

I sure hope my Enc. tampensis isn't all finished blooming before I get home! Still just the one flower open today.

Lindsey,
it is not a problem at all. My sun room and entrance to the greenhouse are already cleared out. Cacti &Succulents in the greenhouse will be moved out next ( have some already out) and then I start on Schomburgkias, Cattleyas, some Laelias. It sure saves me a membership to the Gym, and I am not even kidding. Those plants keep me fit!

Cloudy day today! But the Vandas are either budding or blooming, so I just had to take a couple of pics.
Vanda Martha Ragan - I hadn't realized it was in spike some months ago, I found out the hard way when snapped off a nice spike shifting some Orchids about. Glare
I was really happy to notice another spike a few weeks ago!!

Just when I thought I was throuugh posting for a while, Bc. Maikai 'Louise' AM/AOS opened a new spike. I can tell this is going to be a prolific bloomer.

The Bollopetalum Midnight Blue 'Cardinal's Roost' has filled out the spike and is now in full bloom.

Ursula, both of your Vandas are very nice. I especially like Martha Ragan. I seem to have lots of Vandas that are not spiking and I'm not sure why. They get plenty of sun and food but just sit there growing roots.

Nice colors on both, Jim.

Perhaps fertilizer with a high Phosphorus content might kick them into blooming?

Have you ever sprayed liquid iron on your orchids?

Love the color on 'Cardinal's Roost' Jim. Mine still has no leaves, but nice firm, green pb's so I am holding out hope for it.

For other plants, iron is good for greening up the foliage, but . . . sounds kind of drastic for orchids to me. Mine get a lot greener if I just reduce the amount of light they're getting.

The Orchid Plus that I'm feeding with these days has a .2% iron component.

Now, here's a plant that needs some iron! A gorgeous - totally anemic - tree peony in my daughter's garden in Salt Lake.

Jim, no, I have not. Not sure exactly what Iron will do.
Ok here is a link, I see.
http://www.ext.colostate.edu/p...
No, I have never worried about Iron deficiency in my Orchids, but Magnesium addition (Epsom salt) will give your Orchids nice green leaves.
Thumb of 2012-05-10/Ursula/e57784
See the Magnesium in the center of the Chlorophyll molecule? Chlorophyll is what makes your leaves green.

Enc. tampensis opening it's little flowers steadily now. It was breezy this morning so the pretty purple netted markings in the lip would not stand still enough to be in focus, sorry.

I'm so happy you are enjoying Enc. tampensis, Elaine. She is a beauty.

Opening for me today is Bl. Mem. Bernice Foster.

I love that Schomburgkia, Ursula. They are great orchids. Just like Kathy says, Cattleyas on steroids.

Bl. Mem. Bernice Foster is mounted on a small piece of wood that I have hung on the bottle palm with most of my Brassavolas.
