Yes more jacunda than dorothae in my eyes anyway . If it had been the other way around I would probably have already got it

Aloe congolensis a A. dorotheae Hybrid. Or maybe not? Always stayed green for me. But this winter season in my basement under LED's and low water it is turning more reddish.

@Stush2019
I think these two plants are very closely related and some consider Congolensis to be a hybrid or sub of dorothae. Maybe send a pup in or summer . Its winter here now so it might not survive the post. I read that these are cold sensitive. More info here

I had that plant, back in the day. 2011 photo:

Aloe congolensis is treated by the CoL and the database here as a synonym for buettneri, which looks and acts quite different. The Definitive Guide does not mention (or index) congolensis at all. My 2020 Aloaeceae reference says the name congolensis is "of unresolved application" (presumably imperfectly or incompletely described back in 1899), meaning it is explicitly not a synonym for a valid species... so I guess it's one of those "wrong" Latin names that we keep using for cultivated plants because we haven't found a good explanation or replacement.

I don't remember what happened to that aloe, but I have a sneaking suspicion it got a case of aloe cancer not too long after that photo was taken, and had to go.

My Aloe hemmingii X seedling continues to be annoyingly slow growing, but I'm starting to see some interesting patterning emerge. Leaves 3 and 4 are spotted like Mama, but with a definite white edge and not even a hint of teeth. I'm starting to wonder if the pollen donor was a Gasteria or Gasteraloe of some form. I think she's going to be a very interesting plant in another 6-12 months!

We know that sanses can grow new pups from leaf cuttings, haworthias also can be grown from leaves, what are the chances of propagating aloe leaves, anyone ever try it?

Maybe Aristaloe works, none of the other aloes will grow anything more than roots from a leaf unless it has stem attached.

Few pics from after my decision to do watering in winter , the plants seem to have responded well having not seen any water since early October . Guess I will find out if it's a mistake in the weeks to come

๐Ÿคžguess it will come down to whether or not the substrates dry out in a timely manner . I needed to treat the plants anyway with mite treatment but many looked dry so I made the decision to water . No more water until spring

Cluster aloes, first one is aloe Pepe, the last one no idea, but I like the small leaves and ball shape. The ball shaped aloe is in small pot, 4 inch pot.

Nice clusters . The hybrids have different hot and cold stress colours . At times they can look like totally different plants
