I tend to do it in spring, but I think it is because it is easier to sprinkle it around then. After that, the foliage is to dense in the beds.

I did use it a little heavy one fall when making a new bed. A gardening friend came to help me replant. She said she does not use it in the fall because it heats up the soil as it decomposes.

Thankfully, the daylilies did just fine!
