lauribob's Plant List

A note from lauribob
I am not interested in selling or trading live plants. I do save seeds once in awhile and would be willing to trade those.

90 days. Heirloom. SHU: 100K-450K
2022: I got 2 from seed and planted them in bags. All the habaneros did well this year.
2021: I planted these later because I had troubles with the first go around. Got a few plants and planted them in sack. Moved into the GH when frost threatened in mid September. We got quite a lot of habaneros this year - enough to make 2 giant mason jars of hot sauce.

These do well here - even in the dry areas. I originally got a few of these from the Conservation District. They've spread, but not out of control.

FS-PS, likes moist, well drained soil but is drought tolerant, 15". Prefers full sun, tolerates light shade.
2012: Planted a purchased start in one of the face pots and it looked good.

Corner. Had 2 of these down by the willow end. They hung in there for a couple years, and then they both just woke up dead one spring.

Z5, FS-PS, not a true bog plant, but they'll make it through a summer, 10-12".

2024: I'm trying them in the barrels again unless I find something else to plant in there.
2023: I got 3 nice big ones to put in the barrels again. They didn't like it there, so I put 1 in the CA garden and I think the deer were nibbling on it! The other 2 went in the GH triangle.
2022: I tried 3 of them in the water this year. They did pretty well, but didn't get as big as the acorus that I usually try to find. In early November I moved them to the crabapple garden. I'd like to try to get some more grassy stuff in there for low maintenance and to hopefully choke out the Oriental Limelight there that looks like crap when it gets tall.
2017: I'm not sure if this is still in the Crabapple garden?

2014: Planted in the Z5 garden. It wasn't really thriving.
2016: Moved from Z5 to Corner willow end. Needed more shade.
2017: Added a second one in the same area.

When it's big enough, split some out for Deb

Catalpa
I planted this tree quite a while ago. I didn't make note of the year, but I would guess early 2000's. I planted it to shield the view of Randy's house when he first built, while still keeping the mountain view. I had read that they are fast growing, but this one hasn't gotten real huge, which works for me. The maple tree that I planted in '06 is actually taller than this tree.

I grew these once before and they were pretty nice. Similar to Purple Majesty, but not as dark, with shades of rust, and green. You get a lot more seeds in a packet.

2023: From seed. Ended up with 9 nice healthy plants. Planted 3 in the Z5 annuals area, 1 in GH triangle, the rest scattered around the Z5 garden. These all did really well and appeared to have spread their seeds. I'm hoping a few might sprout in the spring.
2019: Had great germination with old seed. Seedlings look good.

I plant this most years - I like the dark foliage and cat tail like seed heads.

2023: They get stingier every year with these seed packets! I got 8 nice plants. Put all in the Z5 annuals area, except 1 in GH triangle. These did really well this year and appear to have spread their seed.
2019: I had excellent germination, but there are not many seeds in a package. I can't remember if it comes true from seed or not, but I have some saved seed that I will throw out somewhere to see.

Z9. I've been fooled into buying this at least twice due to incorrect zone info on the tag, only to remember when I get the pretty thing home, that it's an annual for me, and overpriced for that use. They are gorgeous though.
2015: My second time believing the tag... It was lovely in a pot.

2022: Bought starts. Planted in Z5, garage side. 3 plants.

This stuff was a real problem when we first bought the land and it completely covered the property. The bugs they used to get it under control have worked well in the whole county. Hand pulling, water, and mowing have brought it well under control for us.

Z5 next to the garage. These lived for many years and were so jolly. I don't think there is a single one left.

These were at the corner of the garage but couldn't compete with grass trying to move in. Became overrun with sod. 2019: I am moving them to in front of the wagon and added 4 more plants.
