lauribob's Plant List

A note from lauribob
I am not interested in selling or trading live plants. I do save seeds once in awhile and would be willing to trade those.

Tender/Annuals
2023: From seed - 10 robust starts. I put 3 next to the garage door & 7 on S side of GH. They're flopping bad by the GH! These were a bit of a disappointment. They looked good, if a bit scrawny when I put them out, but ended up just flopping all over the place. I pulled some of them out because they looked so crappy.

Z5: By the spirea & lamb's ears. Planted at the back, near the garage wall. It never amounted to anything, while the other one has thrived. Spring 2019, pulled out the dead stalk.

Corner: This was by the lilac and came up OK. It got hammered by hail and heavy rain (as a baby) and I hoped it would come back, but alas.

Not positive on this ID. I don't remember planting this, but that was before I kept track of things - it's under the wires.

2020: From seed. I got 2 tiny plants that didn't make it into the rock garden until early August. My bad. These take a long time to germinate, but I would like to try more of them next year. I love the bright colors.

I grow these most years. I used to get Wizard mix, these are about the same - a jolly mix of colors.

2023: They came up and the mice decided to romp in the pot and eat them, I guess. I bought more seeds and they left them alone the second time. They're on the porch now. They did pretty well, but not quite a lush and full as usual.
2022: Excellent germination, need to be thinned.
2021: I put way too many seeds in the pot and despite my attempt to thin them, they were quite crowded. They didn't get as big as usual, but they filled the pot nicely.
2020: They were slow to germinate but I ended up with a lot.
2019: Took forever to come up, but they did.
2018: These were kind of weak and spindly this year for some reason.

Full sun, they'll get to 6' before frost. NoID cannonball type ak

Water
FS-PS, wet, 0-12" deep. I buy them frequently and they work in a pot or in the water. These ordinary ones are the most reliable, but you really need big bulbs to have impressive results. Mixed results trying to overwinter and smaller bulbs are the least likely to make it. Try to find a better source with bigger bulbs.
2021: I ordered them too early off Amazon. They shipped immediately and arrived as mush. Have to wait until later next time. Don't get these from Amazon anymore.
2019: Amazon. Not one ever came to life. They were small bulbs.
2012: I put some in the barrels and also one in a pot on the front porch. That one got huge!

Water
FS-PS, wet, 3-6', 6" deep. These only get 1-2' tall for me either in water or a pot. I've never seen one flower. Best foliage color in full sun.
2012: In water
2009: In the barrels
2006: In a pot. Very dark leaves!

Water
FS-PS, wet, 4-6', 6" deep. Pretty pink stems.
2009: It made it through the winter once again, I'm on a roll. Oddly, the bulb is no bigger than it ever was. You'd think they'd grow a little every year, wouldn't you?
2008: I successfully overwintered this one! It did well again.
2007: It did well and I liked the pink stems.

FS-PS, wet, 4-8', 6" deep.
2012: In the barrels. These looked exactly like the ordinary elephant ears but with dark stems.

Tender/Annuals
Part - full shade, needs humidity, 18-24" trailing, late winter - early summer. Cute orange flowers that look like dolphins.
2010: Sounded good, looked good in the catalog. I hung it from the front porch. Scraggly thing, didn't amount to anything and never bloomed at all. It's a houseplant.
