[ Orchid (Cymbidium Toni Benton 'Sandon') | Posted on May 14, 2019 ]

This plant was originally sold years ago (by a now closed nursery called Sandon Exotics) with a tentative ID of Iris-Like Cymbidium (Cymbidium iridioides), but Melbourne Cymbidium species grower Stephen Early purchased it and selfed it, confirming it is a hybrid. Divisions of the plant are still in circulation today (Stephen Early himself has distributed pieces as well), sometimes with the original, incorrect iridioides label.

I have seen (and photographed) a single flower taken from a blooming plant and concluded it was a hybrid of Cym. iridioides with Orchid (Cymbidium erythraeum var. erythraeum). It is worth noting that if Cym. erythraeum var. flavum is split out of erythraeum and returns to species status, this particular hybrid will likely have no name, as Cym. Toni Benton was registered by Royale Orchids (who I understand used Orchid (Cymbidium erythraeum var. flavum 'Paradise') for all their registered erythraeum hybrids).

This was originally considered to be Orchid (Cymbidium x glebelandense), but it looks like an insigne, the selfings look like insigne and comparison of NHO crosses made with it vs. genuine insignes (using the same pollen parent for each cross) yielded similar results. In Australia it is now typically referred to as an insigne clone.

It is also a known alba carrier.

Despite being awarded as a Cym. insigne clone by the RHS in 1928, this is almost certainly an insigne primary hybrid. Andy Easton crossed it with Orchid (Cymbidium insigne 'Album') to demonstrate that it was not a genuine insigne, but unfortunately his efforts fell on deaf ears.

[ Orchid (Cymbidium insigne 'Album') | Posted on May 7, 2019 ]

This is a specific clone (awarded by the RHS) that is white in colour but not a genetic alba. The naming has caused much confusion over the years!

[ Orchid (Galeopetalum Starburst) | Posted on May 7, 2019 ]

This is a cross of Orchid (Galeottia fimbriata) X Orchid (Zygopetalum Jumpin Jack).

[ Orchid (Cymbidium canaliculatum 'Jessica') | Posted on May 7, 2019 ]

This is one of Russell Lynch's selections and he has actually used the name for all the seedlings from a specific pod (as per his Facebook post 16th Oct 2019). He describes the parents on his Facebook page as one having peloric traits (yellow & maroon petals and dark maroon sepals with white labellum) - which he later explained to me was Orchid (Cymbidium canaliculatum 'VJ's Laura') - and the other being a yellow and brown spotted, also with a white labellum.

[ Orchid (Cymbidium canaliculatum 'Normanland') | Posted on May 7, 2019 ]

Another selection from Russell Lynch Orchids. He describes it as strongly perfumed with a contrasting white labellum. Like Russell's other canaliculatum selections, this is a group name for a batch of similar-looking seedlings from a single pod.

[ Orchid (Cymbidium canaliculatum 'Val's Carbine') | Posted on May 7, 2019 ]

This is an impressive selection of the species bred by Russell Lynch (of Russell Lynch Orchids) in Alice Springs, Australia. Like Russell's other canaliculatum selections, this is a group name for a batch of similar-looking seedlings from a single pod.

[ Orchid (Cymbidium Golden Zenith 'New Horizon') | Posted on April 30, 2019 ]

This is a known tetraploid (4N).

[ Orchid (Fowlerara Edith Spence) | Posted on April 25, 2019 ]

This is a complex intergeneric hybrid resulting from the cross of Orchid (Myrmecatavola Frances Fox) with False Laelia (Pseudolaelia vellozicola).

[ Orchid (Rhyncattleanthe Prathiba) | Posted on April 16, 2019 ]

Made and registered by @prabhisetty, this hybrid is a cross of Orchid (Cattleya Hawaiian Wedding Song) and Orchid (Rhyncattleanthe Twentyfour Carat).

[ Orchid (Cymbidium shidianense) | Posted on March 31, 2019 ]

This is a newly described (2019) species from Yunnan, China. Phylogenetic analyses indicate that it is related to Orchid (Cymbidium cyperifolium), but differs in having larger pseudobulbs, larger sepals and darkly veined petals.

[ Orchid (Cymbidium daweishanense) | Posted on March 31, 2019 ]

This is a recently described species (2018) from Yunnan, China, that appears to be related to Orchid (Cymbidium erythraeum) but has smaller flowers, amongst other differences. There do not appear to be any photos published online at this time.

[ Orchid (Cymbidium canaliculatum 'Jodi's Chillago') | Posted on March 31, 2019 ]

This is an Australian-developed selection of the species which originated with Russell Lynch Orchids, who described the parents as (1) having fragrant, yellow and brown spotted flowers with a white labellum and (2) purple to red flowers with a white labellum and an olive green reverse. Both are floriferous.

Like Russell's other canaliculatum selections, this is a group name for a batch of similar-looking seedlings from a single pod.

[ Orchid (Cymbidium banaense) | Posted on March 31, 2019 ]

This species is likely of hybrid origin. Du Puy & Cribb (2007) write that it may involve Ivory-Colored Cymbidium (Cymbidium eburneum), and Orchid (Cymbidium sanderae), although notes that it has some features not seen in any of these three. It generally has 4-5 flowers that do not fully open and no visible pseudobulb.

[ Sierra Fawnlily (Erythronium multiscapideum Cliftonii Group) | Posted on March 30, 2019 ]

This particular form of E. multiscapideum originates around Pulga Bridge in California and is named after field botanist Glen Clifton. It is considered to be more robust and vigorous than the type. It is not recognised as a distinct botanical variety but is recognised by the RHS as a strain (the Cliftonii Group). Often it is sold as "var. cliftonii" or the cultivar "Cliftonii".

[ Orchid (Cymbidium banaense 'Ori Gem') | Posted on March 25, 2019 ]

This is a diploid plant. Selfings of it have been made available from Sorella Orchids in Santa Barbara, CA.

[ Quince (Cydonia oblonga 'Quince A') | Posted on March 21, 2019 ]

Rootstock cultivar sometimes offered in catalogues.

[ Orchid (Rhyncattleanthe Love Triangle) | Posted on March 21, 2019 ]

This grex is the cross of Orchid (Rhyncholaeliocattleya San Damiano (1)) X Orchid (Cattlianthe Chocolate Drop).

[ Orchid (Cymbidium Glad Ian 'New Horizon') | Posted on February 28, 2019 ]

This is a known tetraploid (4N). Andy Easton, the hybridiser, noted that the red on the lip is strongest when nights are cooler, but can be concolor if the nights are warm.
