What Are You Going To Buy For and during 2019? Mail order and/or locally.

I haven't started my online buying yet and it's way too early here to buy locally, but what is everyone going to get to grow? You can list all your plants here in this thread, as I do, since you can always refer back to the list. I list the companies, plants and shipping dates for reference.

I'm hoping to get S. 'Amistad', S. 'Lady in Red', and S. 'Black and Bloom' (aka Nectar Blue™), but haven't decided what else to get at the moment. Of course, I'll get some Agastaches, as usual.

I'm not planning to mail order anything this year. While I'm not expecting to see anything special at the local garden centers, it would be nice if I could find the Rockin' series of salvias. I'd like to try a Rockin' 'Deep purple'(I've grown Amistad for years), Rockin' 'Fuchsia (new this year), and I'd even try a Rockin' 'Playin' the blues' if I found one. Salvia 'amante' would be at the top of my list, but the chance of finding that locally is about zero.

I have many other salvia, cuphea, lantana, and stachytarpheta overwintering in my window and in the basement under a light. By doing that I save a bunch of money and it gives me something green to do over our long, cold winter.

Last year I ordered some agastache rupestris 'apache sunset' seeds and I got a few plants started. I have a couple overwintering in the ground and a couple in the garage. I know the garage ones are still alive. This year I will finally see them grow out and bloom.

Beyond salvia & agastache, I just picked up some cardinal climber vine and asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed) seeds. I hope to grow several plants of each in a creek area near my house.

@hawkeyewx

Sounds good Dan.

I got S. Rockin' 'Playin' the Blues' last year at Romence Gardens https://shop.romencegardens.co...

I hope you can find it locally, since you're not planning to mail order. If you do, Romence Gardens has it again, as well as, S. 'Rockin' Fuchsia'.

Garden Crossings has all three (Rockin' 'Playin' the Blues', 'Rockin' Fuchsia' and Rockin' Deep Purple) https://www.gardencrossings.co...

There's not much of plants here, so I mail order what I want and I don't overwinter in the garage. I don't know if anything that's hardy here will overwinter in the containers they're in.

Fourth order.

Placed order at High Country Gardens tonight. (shipping week of April 22)

3 Agastache Red Happiness
1 Salvia penstemonoides
1 Salvia greggii Cold Hardy Pink

After last year's fiasco when I didn't get my plants, but got someone else's order, I debated about ordering from HCG this year, but I really wanted A. Red Happiness and S. penstemonoides.

Hopefully, it arrives correct this time and hopefully, they ship the box early in the week, so I still get it the same week.

It's a good thing that I wrote down the confirmation # for my HCG order, since I still haven't received an email from them for the order I placed on March 14. I just emailed them and hopefully, I get all the plants I ordered this year. I asked if they would ship the week of April 22 instead.

After what happened last year with HCG, I hope it wasn't a mistake to order again from them.

I wish you success with them all. I unfortunately don't have a budget to acquire plants so it's an adventure with seeds for me.

After what happened last year with HCG, I hope it wasn't a mistake to order again from them.

I got an email from a HCG employee on March 29, she said:

"We are happy to accommodate your request and have reset your shipping date to the week of 4/22/2019. When your order leaves our warehouse, you will receive an email confirmation and tracking information. We have also asked to ship the order out in the first half of the week.

Thank you for letting us know your preference in advance so we could make these arrangements for you. If you'd like to make any changes to the ship date or you would like to add any additional items onto your order before it ships out, please let us know and we will be happy to help."

Today, on the afternoon of April 20 (Easter weekend), I opened my front door and was very shocked to see a box of plants from HCG! I was so upset. I had contacted them on March 27 about this (about shipping wk of 4/22). And no, there wasn't any email confirmation and tracking information sent this week. Grumbling

I did receive the correct plants I ordered:

3 Agastache 'Red Happiness'
1 Salvia penstemoides
1 Salvia 'Cold Hardy Pink'

Hopefully, they all grow and bloom well.

The first time I ordered from HCG was spring 2005 (when David Salman, the founding owner had it) and when it was bought out some years ago, HCG isn't and hasn't been the same.

After being very upset with them last year of not getting any of the plants I ordered and now this upset, I may not order again with them.

I know I most likely said the same thing last year, but I really wanted the 'Red Happiness' Agastache and thought I'd give them another try.

Ordering and receiving plants, should be a happy experience, not an upsetting one.

so I emailed them to include one to my order when it ships. Looking forward to seeing it in bloom. Hurray!

(they didn't offer it earlier in the spring and it's a late addition)

Yesterday, I received the box from Colonial Creek Farm and the box from Almost Eden.

Regarding Colonial Creek:

I'm suppose to have 9 plants in the order and I only got 8 plants. Agastache 'Tutti Frutti is missing. I just emailed them about it.

Regarding Almost Eden:

I received my order yesterday.

One Bandana Red Lantana that was listed to be in a 3.5 inch pot priced at $7.99.

One Mercedes Magic Variegated Coral Porterweed that was listed to be in a 4.5 inch pot priced at $14.99. But it wasn't in a 4.5 inch pot. It's pot is the exact same size as the 3.5 inch pot. I was expecting to see the plant in a larger pot than the other plant that I got when it arrived and I'm not happy about it.

I just emailed John at Almost Eden about it.

When I placed the order, I realized that not only am I paying more for a new introduction by them, but I'm also paying more for a plant that is in a larger pot size.
