I rescued two salvias at a discounted price at the local ace. Appears they were cut back due to cold exposure. I paid three dollars for each. They were recovering. I ended up getting a Mysty, and Rock in Playin the blues. I am also looking at the cathedral salvias on burpee. I like their colors. Which Salvias are on your radar and want list?

I'm moving in a few months so no purchases for me right now. And it will take a while to see what sort of sun and soil I get in the new yard..but salvias are definitely on the list

I just purchased a nice mystic spires salvia. Think I am done collecting blues for the year.

I finally snapped up a black and blue salvia guara something. It was discounted due to being cut back from frost damage. It has a real pungent odor that was causing both my father and i to cough while it was in the back seat.

Eric,

I like the scent. I haven't had a salvia I didn't like its scent.

Sorry it made you and your Dad cough.

I just purchased seeds for summer jewel red, pink, white, and lavender. Anyone have experience with summer jewel salvia plants?

I just purchased a salvia splendens red and they accidentally put a peach one in the same spot. Little expensive at 10 dollars but the two different colors in one pot made it worth it to me.

I now have an April night salvia. It interesting how the blooms and leaves look different from other salvias. I keep getting purples and blues now think I need to save some room for other colors.

Eric, prior to 2019, only grew annual salvias; was never impressed. Then I purchased a Mystic Spires; it is a beautiful plant. This yr I have purchased a Mole Poblano, Chiapas Sage, and a Frosty Kiss. Looking forward to see how they bloom in the Pacific Northwest, especially Frosty Kiss.

The plant sold by Annie's Annuals as Salvia wagneriana 'Frosty Kiss' is identical to the White Form of Salvia wagneriana. In our experience it is root hardy to 20 when established, but the flowers are burned off at something around 30 F. So for a winter bloomer it is really best in Zones 9 and above.

Kermit, thanks for the info. I will place a frost blanket over it when temps are approaching freezing. If it dies back, it will be compost. Hopefully, during summer temps, it will be a good looking shrub.

I would like to try salvia 'rockin deep purple' this year. I can just put it in my patio pot instead of 'amistad'. I have other amistads in the garden. I'd also like to try salvia 'roman red', but a local place would have to carry it. I also wouldn't mind growing salvia 'amante'.

I love the Pineapple sages too. I love the smell of the leaves and the beautiful red flowers. They bloom late here in the season.

I've grown the regular green leaf variety and Golden Delicious variety. Golden Leaved Pineapple Sage (Salvia elegans Rockin'® Golden Delicious)

I'm buying one called shell dancer, a pink hybrid of Greggi and another that for the best of me I can't remember. There's a lot of new shades in these hybrids, all the delicious apricot, sunset and pinky coral colors that are so popular right now. I have black and blue and hot lips; the hot lips is 4 years old and is a small shrub now, about 3'x3'. I also have the annual coccinea lady in red, which prolifically reseeds it's self every year. The hummingbirds love it.

I ordered today from Flowers By The Sea. Shipping May 3.

2 Cuphea x 'David Verity'
2 Salvia coccinea 'Lady in Red'
1 Salvia leucantha 'Midnight'
1 Salvia x 'Elk Crimson Spires'
1 Salvia 'Amistad'
1 Salvia BODACIOUS 'Rhythm and Blues'
1 Salvia x 'Wendy's Wish'
1 Salvia darcyi x splendens 'Roman Red'
1 Salvia VIBE 'Ignition Fuchsia'

I'm looking forward to growing 'Elk Crimson Spires' and VIBE 'Ignition Fuchsia' for the first time and seeing their flowers (color).

I really love the 'Roman Red' flowers and the color. I wanted to get 2 of them, but I was afraid it would confuse the shippers (with one free and one purchased). FBTS is offering 1 free of the 'Roman Red' salvias with each $100 purchase of plants (EXTENDED to April 15th). I couldn't get enough of the the 3 I grew last year. It's a must have in my garden every year just to see those gorgeous red flowers. https://www.fbts.com/

I'm growing BODACIOUS 'Rhythm and Blues' for the second time. I'm hoping it grows and blooms a lot better this time. I'm going to put it into a larger container by itself this time.

Salvia 'Midnight' is my husband's (and one of mine) favorite, so I make sure I get it and grow it every year.

I decided to get and grow 2 of the cuphea 'David Verity' this year. Being that they're hummingbird magnets, I wanted one on the patio, besides the one at the end of the driveway.

Usual 'must haves' are: 'Amistad', 'Lady in Red', 'Wendy's Wish'. Love those salvias, their flowers and attracting hummers.

Wanted to get more. Some like 'Wild Thing' and some others were out at the time I ordered (late). I usually order a lot earlier, but with my husband having more health problems (again) starting since Feb. 2, I couldn't. Maybe I can get another order in this year.

Stay safe everyone.

Marilyn, I love your list. A question; is lady in red the annual one? I've been growing an annual salvia with that name for 20 years now. It re seeds every year. I've heard it called Texas sage also.pic below. It's actually in a pot, you can't see the pot very well because the plants are so large.

Lynda,

Thank you. Lady in Red is an annual. Love it when it reseeds for me. I always try and get a plant or two of it, just in case.

What a beautiful and a large plant. I remember growing Lady in Red about 20 years ago also. Yes, a common name for Lady in Red is Texas Sage. You should post your pic to the database. I didn't see it while pulling up the Lady in Red plant listing.

Scarlet Sage (Salvia coccinea 'Lady in Red')
